Prince Zurich Cont.

Emile must not remember who he is speaking to.

"You think I fear Alexander?" I ask, curiosity etched in my voice, also laced with amusement.

"No, cousin, I know you're only worried about what he's doing to that blood-dealing business of yours," He chuckles, "You know 'Xander, he doesn't—hmm how do you say this? He doesn't let shit go?"

Don't I know it? The little shit murdered my dog when we were younger because it growled at him. He's impulsive, but a very honourable man. I'm telling you he'd understand if I just spoke to him.

"Why'd you fuck Naforah?" I asked, cutting to the chase.

"She offered, and I said yes," he said bluntly.

I took a deep breath, lest I break the damn device.

"I knew you to be dumb, but I never thought you'd do that to your own brother!" I gritted.

"Is this the scenario humans reference when they say 'the pot's calling the kettle black?'" He chuckles. "Zurich, you've had your fun with Naforah, too. Let's not forget why Alex is angry and lashing out. He got over the fact that she and I fooled around. But his favourite cousin?"

As much as I wanna rip his throat out for fucking her, I have to be realistic here. Alex isn't hurt because of what Naf and Emile did...he's hurt by what I did. I don't deal well with 'hurt'. How do I begin to fix it?

My head pounded as I thought about all that I have to deal with. I need to prove my innocence, keep my business afloat and a secret. I need to figure out who has been killing vampires—now Donatus, since that girl they found me with had died, too, and she was a Maleficus. One can't say the one witch negates the countless vampire deaths, but it does make you wonder.

"Emile, ask your brother to meet with me."

I hear as he struggles to hold back his laughter.

"You're joking, right?" He lets out, in disbelief. No... I'm not. "He wants you death, do you not understand the shit you've gotten yourself in?"

"Yes, he wants me dead, but he knows he can't hurt me." Unless he's suddenly suicidal. I am the king, if you kill me you're as good as dead under the law...unless you can prove I am a threat to the livelihood of Donatus'.

"You may be right, but he's like you in many ways. Just remember that." Emile says as he hangs up.

Hmmm...

What's that supposed to mean?

If Alexander truly won't talk with me then I suppose I do have to prepare for all he has planned. With all the resources he has as head of the House of Absconditus. Uncle Willmont was always rebellious. Did not like the fact he had to live under his brother's shadow as a prince, and never more. So he left, and started his own House, gained respect over the years for contributing to the survival of vampire's with many hefty donations of soldiers and money to satisfy at least three Donatus uprisings in the last eight hundred years. Absconditus may be a young house, but they have the backing of quite a large number of vampire's and other Donatus alike. Alex has a play he could make if he wanted to ruin me. He could inform Maaldamir of my blood dealings and he would definitely give Zaphrina my throne, then.

'You may be right, but he's like you in many ways. Just remember that.'

If Alex and I are anything alike, much like when we were kids. I'd have to put myself in his shoes and figure out his next move before he makes it.

'Alex reminds me a lot of you, he hits where it hurts, never thinking of the aftermath. Only to quel that part of him that needs to know you are suffering at his hands' Naforah had said to me.
