Happy Holidays, I've been lazy. There is no excuse and there is no apology.
Noah's POV
It was the day before Thanksgiving, and if people thought I was weird then they should have been here when I witnessed my three mothers in the kitchen together preparing meals for tomorrow's Thanksgiving feast for our abnormally large family. My grandparents were being flown into town dine and spend time with us all, and this was going to be my first Thanksgiving with them all.
Usually, I spend them alone with only me and mamo, but since this year's twist and turns of occasion, we have more family to celebrate this heinous holiday with. It was taught early on what Thanksgiving truly was these days, the teaching curriculum of these days was more progressive and brutally honest than what they'd dare to have been ten years ago. I appreciate it though, the honesty and all. I've got to say, its nice to see something more than mamo's spicy Mexican cooking and her Polish meals, which were differently seasoned than her Mexican meals, I finally was introduced to African American cooking, tasting the soul from my birth mother and aunts, then the subtle but cheery cooking from Ashley. Eliza constantly looked over Ashley's shoulder making sure she didn't miss a drop of seasoning or salt during her meals.
My siblings and I were entrusted to help them all, I stuck close to Eliza and some part of me tried not to feel too bad when I didn't help out my mother since we were so used to cooking together. Stuffing the turkey which is something she would let me do.
"Alright, Noah, now pass the pork bits please," Eliza ordered. I made my way over to her with the heavy bowl of pork bits gingerly. "come on now, these greens won't pork themselves."
I walk faster. "Here, mama,"
"Thanks, boy,"
She takes a raw handful of pork and begins to throw them in the pot of cleaned collard greens, mixing them in and taking another handful until the bowl in my hands is empty. "there we go."
It was nice to see all three of my mothers walking around the kitchen making dinner for tomorrow. "alright, you guys get ready for bed, it's 8:30, time for bed!" Ashley yelled from across the kitchen.
"No!" my siblings whined. We weren't ready for bed just yet, we could spend all night helping and watching another round of Charlie Brown films if we wanted to, we were up for the task, we had all the energy and for us-- I mean privileged rich kids we had a while week off of school before Thanksgiving and a week after New Years which was more than most kids were given, we literally had nothing else to do but look at each other, play on our things or gaming systems. Helping was the least we could do.
"Now!" Mamo said.
"Are you patrolling my kids too now?" Eliza asked.
Mamo smirks at Eliza with her hands on her hips. "If you're emotionally adopting my son and paying for his schooling, what makes any difference if I mother your kids around too?" she asks. Ooh, burn. One point for mamo and zero points for Eliza.
"Touche." Eliza said. "alright, you all heard your mother, get ready for bed, I want those teeth brushed and the toes in bed."
We had no choice but to go along. "when are Jean and Ansel coming?" I ask.
"They'll be here early tomorrow morning," Mamo told me.
The part I was really excited about for Thanksgiving is that Jean would be coming and we'd spend our first Thanksgiving together. . . As a friend of course, but still together. I wanted to sit next to her and I'd push Dallas into the pool if she tried to sit next to her. I know it is wrong of me to think things like this but I don't think I can help myself when it comes to Jean and her mane of red hair, how happy I get when I am around her when I see her crack a smile upon her face. Her happiness is my whole world and if that is a little too weird, do I really care? Goodness no.
