The next morning was different from those Beomgyu used to have in his new house. He didn't wake up to Yeonjun's whispers or gentle kisses. He was still tightly wrapped in covers when he regained consciousness, immediately realising that something was odd.
The sun was bright and hot as it peeked into the room through the open window, so Beomgyu pushed away the covers to let a refreshing morning breeze fan over his skin. He rubbed his watery eyes to clear his blurred vision as he leaned on his elbow and tilted his upper body, curious orbs sweeping across the room, searching for a certain male, but Yeonjun didn't seem to be there.
Beomgyu furrowed his brows in concern and confusion because it was so unlike Yeonjun. He became worried about the male and wondered where he was.
He shuffled on the mattress to sit on the edge and quickly put on his slippers, then he got on his feet and circled the bed to arrive at the door. He grabbed the handle and pushed it down, yanking the door open. The boy instantly flinched and gasped in fear when he came across Yeonjun in the doorframe, eyes widening and heart jumping from suddenness in his chest.
"Oh my god, you scared me", he exclaimed and rested his palm on his chest as if he could calm his racing heart magically like that.
"Sorry", Yeonjun gave him a weak smile, his voice exhausted and hoarse.
A frown of worry spread over Beomgyu's face when he took in the sight in detail. Yeonjun had red-rimmed eyes which looked terribly tired and dark bags under them. His face was also a bit puffy as if the male had cried. He didn't look in his usual joyful and bright mood to Beomgyu's dismay.
Beomgyu had no idea that there was that much concern written on his face, his lips were slightly parted as his eyes kept studying the older male and his hands raised in the air to rest on Yeonjun's cheeks. His touch was warm and saturated with care and love, Yeonjun immediately shut his eyes.
"What's wrong? Have you been crying, hyung?", Beomgyu asked in a wistful tone, eyes scanning the older's features.
Yeonjun opened his eyes at the question and shook his head in a weak manner, taking Beomgyu's hand from his face to bring it to his lips and leave the gentlest kiss on his skin, "No, Beomgyu", he said, "I just stayed up all night. That's all"
Yeonjun gave his hand another kiss and then walked into the room, causing Beomgyu's unconvinced eyes to follow him in a brooding manner as the older walked to the closet and picked his towel, then turned his head to the ravenette to flash him a visibly fake smile, "I'll take a shower and we can go out for breakfast, okay?"
Beomgyu's mind wandered to places and a trail of distressing thoughts seized on him as he stared into Yeonjun's tired eyes. He wasn't a fool. He could say that something was definitely bothering his husband, but Beomgyu didn't want to pester him with questions. He just nodded his head and watched Yeonjun disappear behind the bathroom door, abandoning Beomgyu to his wandering mind and a heavyweight of haunting ideas in his head.
Did Yeonjun look so distressed because of him? Was he the reason? Had Yeonjun finally gotten tired of waiting for him?
Beomgyu even felt like the male was being a little bit distant that morning and he couldn't even blame him, because it was him who wasn't able to be the husband Yeonjun dreamt of. It was mind-blowing. They'd been married for nearly a month already, but Yeonjun still didn't have the possibility to touch his husband the way he wanted. He couldn't approach him. He couldn't be free with him. He always had to be tense and worried even when he was just kissing him, so he wouldn't accidentally make the boy feel uncomfortable. Which spouse would be able to tolerate something like this for so long?
