Melanie was ready and waiting for Reece when he knocked on her door. He whistled when she opened the door.

“Who are you and what have you done with Melanie?”

Melanie blushed and looked down at her feet.

“Wow, she blushes too.”

“Reece, stop it. I won’t go out to dinner with you if you keep this up.”

Reece lifted his hands in the air. “Apologies Miss, but you blew me away when you opened the door. Damn Mel, you clean up pretty as a picture.”

“Well it was a long flight and I didn’t really get any sleep. Had this chatterbox next to me bending my ear.” She winked at him.

“Me a chatterbox?” Reece laughed. “I slept the whole way while listening to the gentle snoring of the person next to me.”

“Mhmm…I don’t snore.” Melanie said grabbing her bag from the telephone table.

“You all ready to go then? Got your keys, phone, purse?”

She nodded.

At the restaurant Reece helped her out of her jacket and pulled out her chair for her. Melanie was surprised by his manners for one so much younger than Cirrus. And there it was… even here thousands of miles away from him he had crossed her mind. She mentally shrugged off thoughts of him and concentrated on the menu.

All through dinner Reece chatted away and Melanie was glad of the distraction. Their conversation was light hearted and he made her laugh.

It was not till they were on the way back to the car that he caught hold of her hand as though it was the most natural thing to do and they had been together for a long time. Reece’s fingers were long and slender and slid easily through hers. Although it felt comfortable holding his hand, she immediately found herself comparing his hand to Cirrus. In fact she now realised that all through dinner she had been comparing Reece to Cirrus. Whereas Cirrus took control of every situation, even so far as ordering her meal and drinks, Reece had asked her what she wanted.

At her hotel door Reece stopped and squeezed her hand. “I really hope you enjoyed the evening Mel. You didn’t really say much.”

She laughed. “I couldn’t get a word in; you were talking my head off.”

Reece immediately let go her hand. “Ohh, I am sorry. Why didn’t you stop me? I suppose you won’t be wanting a second date then?” Reece shuffled his feet awkwardly waiting for her to reply.

“I was only teasing. I did enjoy this evening and the conversation was perfect, the meal was perfect, the wine was perfect and the company was fun. As a matter of fact I really did enjoy the whole evening and very glad we met on the plane.”

Reece breathed a sigh of relief. “I’m glad my seat was next to yours too Mel. So does this mean there will be a second date?”

She hesitated only briefly as Cirrus’s face crossed her mind. “Yes Reese. You haven’t blotted your copy book with me yet?” She punched his arm playfully.

“Would it be too soon to ask if I can kiss you goodnight?”

“I think a kiss on the cheek would be okay for our first date.”

He lent forward and pressed his lips against her cheek. “You smell amazing.” He whispered in her ear.

She blushed. “Thanks Reece and goodnight.”

“Hey wait a minute; I need your phone number to arrange another date.”

Melanie pulled her phone from her pocket and gave him her number. He tapped it into his phone. “Thanks Mel. I look forward to seeing you again soon.”
