CHAPTER 14

"Hi Crystal, how are you?"

"I'm fine thanks Sheena. How are things at the club?"

"Running along smoothly as always."

After a couple seconds of silence Crystal asked, "and Cirrus?"

"That's why I'm calling. He would like to see you again."

"Ohh!"

"You sound surprised."

"I just thought... not sure what I thought really."

"He hasn't been to the club since you and he spent time together."

"He still wants to see me after... I guess you know by now it didn't end well for him."

"I kind of gathered that but he never said anything. Dante went in to see him after you left, but I have no idea what they spoke about, just that he was okay and left by the back door."

"Did he give a reason for wanting to see me again?"

"No. My Master said it was time for him to move on and he asked if you had been in since his absence. When I said no, he asked if I could contact you and see if you would like to see him again."

"When do you expect him to visit the club?"

"I honestly don't know, but I am sure my Master will let him know you are willing to see him again, if you agree of course."

"I wouldn't mind, if you can arrange it."

"That's great, thanks. I will be in touch as soon as I hear from him."

Cirrus sat across the lunch table from Dante. It was not often they had lunch together, and Dante had sounded quite serious on the phone when he invited him to lunch.

They ordered drinks and made small talk while waiting for their food orders to arrive. Dante couldn't help noticing how tired Cirrus looked. "Are you getting enough sleep?"

"Yes. What makes you think I'm not?"

"The dark circles under your eyes."

"I'm fine. Work has been stressful lately."

"Cirrus, I know you thrive on your pressurised job. You're always telling me how it makes you feel alive and in control."

"It's dealing with Melanie's estate that cuts me to the core. My only contact with her is through her lawyers and they are a tight-lipped bunch who won't give me a damn clue as to her whereabouts."

"That more than anything else should tell you it's time to let go."

"Yes, I know. It's not easy to close the door on someone you have loved forever. To be honest I don't think I can, or ever will."

"Crystal has agreed to see you again." Dante knew it was time to change the subject.

Their food arrived just then and Cirrus didn't respond. He stared at the plate of food and pushed it aside."

"What? Is something wrong with your meal? You can send it back to the kitchen."

"I have lost my appetite."

"What do you want to do about Crystal? Do you want to see her or not?"

"I might as well. She will never take Mel's place, but I guess she will do for now."

"She has no intention of taking Melanie or anyone else's place. She is her own woman."

"Yes I realise that."
