Melanie's day at work was uneventful with no sign of Dr Anderson, she was able to relax and for the first time she actually enjoyed working in the ER without him hovering over her shoulder. Reece was a perfect gentleman at lunch time and his jokes even made her laugh. For the first time since she left England she did not think of Cirrus or the pain she felt when she left.

Reece gave her hand a squeeze. "Mel, it's the first time I have seen your smile light up your eyes. Maybe I should stay over more often?" He winked at her.

Melanie laughed. "Sorry to disappoint you, but it's because Dr Anderson is not here today."

Reece's smile faded and he pouted. "Aww Mel, you really know how to suck the air out of guy."

She reached over and ran her fingers through his hair. "Sorry to burst your bubble." She smiled. "I can't have you thinking you're the reason for my happy mood, otherwise you'll be wanting to stay over every time you see me frown." She punched his arm softly.

"And what would be so bad about that?"

"Reece Denver, we aren't a couple, so please pack those ideas away." She laughed. "Enough small talk, it's time to get back to work."

Reece stood up quickly and pulled her chair out for her. When she stood up he slipped his arm around her waist and gave her a quick hug. "I hope to change your mind on that someday soon." He whispered into her ear.

Melanie was about to tell him not to hold his breath until she noticed the sad puppy dog look on his face. Instead she said. "Time will tell."

They parted and went in different directions to their respective wards.

The afternoon in the ER had been hectic and Melanie was grateful to be home with her feet up and enjoying her iced tea. Every time she lifted her glass the ice tinkled and took her back to happier times with Cirrus during their cruise. With these thoughts in mind she dialled Sheena's home number.

"Hello." Sheena's sleepy voice answered the phone.

"Hi Sheena, sorry to wake you. I forgot the big time difference. Shall I call back later?"

"No, no it's fine Melanie. What time is it there?"

"It is ten at night and there?"

"Six in the morning."

"I am sorry but couldn't leave it any later as I have an early 5am shift in the morning."

"That's okay. It's lovely to hear from you. What's on your mind."

Melanie sighed. "How is Cirrus?"

"He's okay." Sheena didn't want to tell her that he was falling apart at the seams since she left, especially as she had found someone else.

"Ohh... has he mentioned me at all?"

"No, not really. He keeps his thoughts to himself."

"Ohhh..." Melanie sighed. "So he has found a suitable Sub then? Another girlfriend?"

Sheena caught the hint of sadness in Melanie's voice. "How are you doing? Have you found someone else?"

"No, no one since Cirrus."

"I heard a man's voice in the background when you called earlier and he sounded rather nice."

"Yes, that was Reece. I met him on the plane coming over here and we got on very well on the plane. He is training as an anaesthetist at the hospital I am at too."

"Well that's great." Sheena interrupted.

"We are just friends, before you get any ideas."

"Ohh, it sounded more than just friendship."

"Well, it's not, not on my side anyway. My heart is not ready for any new romance."

"Mel, you said you needed to talk to me. Is something on your mind that I may be able to help with?"

"I just needed to hear a familiar voice. I guess I am a little homesick too and ..." She swallowed hard to keep the lump in her throat down and a silent tear spilt down her cheek.

"Melanie are you okay?"

"Damn and blast." She cried. "I can't stop thinking about him. Everything I do, everywhere I go I compare the times we spent together." She sobbed. "I miss him."

"Aww Mel. I must be honest and tell you he misses you too and just can't find anyone to compare with you. He loves you and yes he has asked me if I have heard from you."

Melanie sniffed. "Really? Has he been to the club? Has he played with anyone since I left?"

"Yes, he does miss you and yes he has been to the club. He has played both as Dom and Sub but never completed play."

"What do you mean?"

"When he was a Sub he used his safe word. I'm not a hundred percent sure but I think your name is his safe word. As a Dom he walked out within minutes saying he just couldn't do it."

"My name is his safe word?"

"Yes."

"I just don't know what to do."

"The most important thing for you to do first is finish your training. Put your heart and soul into that and then when you are finished you can decide what to do about your love life."

"You're right. I need to put my feelings on the back burner and concentrate on my studies. Thanks for talking to me and I am so sorry to wake you so early."

"No problem. I'm here anytime you need to talk."

"Thanks Sheena. It does help knowing he still cares."

"I think he always will. He has loved your forever, so it's not something he can just close the door on."

"I know and I understand. Thanks again Sheena."

"You need to get some sleep Mel. We'll talk again soon."

"Okay, talk soon. Bye for now."

A tap at the door startled Melanie. "Who on earth can it be? It's after eleven already." She whispered to herself.

"Who's there?" She called out.

"Nurse Mckinney can I talk to you please?"

"Dr Anderson it is late and I am in bed."

"It won't take long, I promise."

"Whatever you need to say to me you can say when I am at work."

"Melanie, I don't want to discuss this at work or standing outside your door. Please let me come in just for a few minutes."

"No, go away. I will talk to you tomorrow."

"I'm not going till I talk to you and I'll keep knocking till you open the door."

"I'll call the police."

The next moment she heard the door handle rattling and it flew open.

"What the ..."

"I asked nicely for you to open the door, now your lock is broken." Dr Anderson staggered inside and slammed the door behind him.

"You accused me of sexually harassing you at work." He swayed as he spoke. "I've come to show you what sexual harassment really is." He said as he lunged towards her.

Melanie panicked and rushed to her bed to grab her phone. Before she could hit speed dial he was on top of her ripping her blouse off. His body weight pinned her to the bed and his left hand pushed against her wind pipe. She struggled to breathe. With his right hand, he ripped her bra off.

"I can't breathe." She gasped."

"Good!" His stale alcoholic breath fanned across her face almost suffocating her. "Better if you pass out, then you won't cause a fuss." He laughed as he squeezed her nipple between his fingers."

The last thing Melanie remembered was his mouth closing over hers, as his teeth closed on her lips she passed out.
