Reece knew he would have to be patient with Melanie, if breaking up with her ex was still so fresh. He could see she was still hurting.
His attraction to Melanie had been instantaneous the moment he sat next to her on the plane and he secretly hoped they would see more of each other and start dating. There was something special about her and if it meant waiting till she was ready then wait he would.
Melanie pushed aside her plate and looked up. "I'm feeling a little queasy now. I think I need to go home to bed."
"Of course. I'll take you home right now." Reece stood up and went round to pull out Melanie's chair. She swayed when she stood up and Reece caught her and put his arm around her waist. "Are you alright?"
"I'll be fine thanks, stood up too quickly, that's all."
"Will you be alright to walk to the car?"
"Of course I will, don't fuss so."
Reece ignored her protests and continued fussing over Melanie, helping her get into the car and buckling up her seat belt.
Melanie sighed. Reece was being so sweet but she didn't want sweet. She closed her eyes and scolded herself inwardly. She needed to give Reece a chance. She was the one who walked away from the relationship with Cirrus. She didn't want to be in his world. She could never be submissive to anyone. But she needed time to put her life back in order and meeting Reece on her way over here was just too soon. She had to try and make him understand that she needed time and more importantly space to build a new life for herself in a new country.
Pulling up outside the hotel Reece lent across to Melanie and undid her belt. "Don't move, I'll go round and open the door for you."
"Reece, I'm quite capable ..."
Reece put his finger on her lips. "Shhhh, you're injured, now be a good patient and let me play doctor." He winked at her and before she could say another word he was out the car and round to her side opening the door.
Melanie smiled as he held out his hand to help her out of the car. "Thanks, and I guess you're going to see me up to my room too."
"She's not only beautiful but she can read minds too."
Melanie blushed but didn't respond as his cheeky smile took her breath away. He was definitely a very handsome man. A man any girl would be proud to be with. But she couldn't be that girl right now.
When they reached Melanie's door, Reece took her key from her and opened it. Pushing it open he moved back to let her walk through. She brushed up against him as she passed him and for a moment they were face to face.
Melanie took a deep breath and said, "We need to talk."
"Sure. As soon as I make you a cup of tea, we can chat about anything you wish to."
"Not now Reece, please. Now I just want to go back to bed. Maybe tomorrow."
"Whenever you wish Melanie. I'm here for you, you just have to call. Maybe you should put my number on speed dial, just in case..."
"Reece, honestly, I am alright now. I don't plan to fall in the shower again. I will be more careful from now on, so you don't have to mother me."
"I wouldn't dream of it. I know you are an independent woman, but you do seem vulnerable at the moment all stitched up and emotional."
"I'm just tired and right now all I need is just to go to bed."
"Is that your polite way of telling me to go now."
