Reece had rung Melanie's mobile phone and land line several times during the morning and having no reply he was worried. She was due on duty at six this morning and she hadn't turned up and no one had heard from her. When he heard that Dr Anderson had not been heard from since he hadn't turned up for work yesterday and no one had heard from him today. An alarm bell went off in his head. He couldn't put his finger on what was bugging him, he just knew something was not right.

During his lunch break he rushed off to her flat. Although she lived on the hospital grounds, she was a good fifteen minutes' walk from the ER section.

When he tapped on her door it opened. It was not like Melanie to leave her door unlocked, let alone open. He knocked louder and called her.

"Mel, are you okay?" He pushed the door open. A shiver ran up his spine when he saw her bed. Her sheets were all twisted and there was a pillow on the floor. Her curtains were still closed and the handset of her landline was missing. He was about to bend down and pick up the pillow when he saw the handset peeping out from under the bed. A car door slamming outside caught his attention and he rushed over to the window. He peeped through the curtains and saw Dr Anderson's car and he was walking away from it carrying his black medical bag.

Reece watched him walk round to the back of the block of flats. As soon as he was out of sight he ran down stairs to see where he was going. Dr Anderson never made house calls, so what was he doing here? If Melanie had an accident on her way to work, surely, she would have called him and not Dr Anderson. Hundreds of scenarios ran through his head as he made his way round to the back of the building where he was sure the doctor had gone.

Stairs leading up to the first-floor back entrance caught his attention. He ran up the stairs and tried the door, but it was locked. Reece scratched his head and voiced his thoughts out loud. "If he went in here, then he must have a key, but why would he lock the door behind him again." He climbed down the stairs and walked towards his left following the wall of the building. He would not have noticed the white door against the white wall if he had not walked that way. He tried the handle and the door opened without a sound. To the right of the door just a few feet away was a metal door. He could hear voices coming from inside and he put his ear against the cold metal.

"Please untie me, please. I need the bathroom." Melanie's tearful voice begged.

"No I don't trust you. You'll have to pee where you are."

Dr Anderson's voice turned Reece's blood ice cold. He could hear Melanie crying. Without realising it he had dialled 999. When he heard, a man answering the call he stepped away from the door and whispered down the phone. "A woman is in trouble. A man has her tied up in the basement." He stepped outside the building and hurriedly gave directions, leaving his phone on and clicking on the location button so the police could find him and went back inside.

When Reece heard, Melanie crying his blood boiled. Without thinking he yanked the door open. The sunlight streamed inside casting hideous shadows on the floor. He was half way down the stairs when the sight of Melanie lying naked and chained to a box, with Dr Anderson standing over her, touching her naked body, stripped all sanity from him.

"Bastard!" He shouted as he ran down the stairs and flew at him.

The doctor was stunned by Reece's appearance and he was caught off guard when his six-foot muscle hard frame connected him in the chest. He fell flat on his back, knocking all the air out of his lungs, with Reece on top of him.

Reece was blind to everything around him except the anger burning inside him as he punched Dr Anderson's smug face and even though his nose was gushing blood he continued punching him.
