The pouring rain pelted down the window as Cirrus sipped at his coffee. She was late, maybe she wasn't coming after all.
When the door opened a gust of wind blew the napkin off the table. He smiled when he saw her. Her bedraggled wet appearance made her look like a young innocent girl. But he knew better. He had seen her in action and she could bring a man to his knees within minutes if she wished to.
"Well don't just sit there, help me with this sodding raincoat. It's stuck to my skin."
Cirrus jumped up and stifled a laugh.
"What are you grinning at?" She asked without turning around.
"So, you have eyes in the back of your head now too?"
"Of course, I do. I need to know what's going on all around me all the time."
"Well you can trust me." Cirrus pulled her chair out so she could sit down.
She laughed. "I trust you only as far as I can make you bend."
Cirrus bit his bottom lip. He had to admit she was right. She knew how to make him bend.
Sensing the mood change, she tapped his cup. "Hey are you drinking by yourself or are you going to order me a coffee too. I do believe it's your turn to buy."
"Oh... yes, sorry. The same as usual?" He asked as he signalled a waitress over.
"Yes please."
"A latte and another black coffee please."
"Will that be all?" The waitress asked.
"Yes thanks." Crystal nodded.
"And ... so here we are again." Cirrus smiled
"It's becoming our weekly ritual." Crystal studied his face. "A pleasant one too." She added.
"I was beginning to think you might find my company boring." Cirrus fidgeted with his coffee cup.
Before Crystal could reply the waitress arrived with their coffee.
"Thanks." Cirrus paid her and added a tip.
"Thank you, Mr Ballinger." She blushed when he smiled at her.
"Good heavens Cirrus, do you have all young girls swooning over you. The poor child almost curtsied when you tipped her. How much did you give her?"
"Does it matter?"
"Why so morbid all of sudden?" Crystal reached across and touched his hand.
He studied her perfectly long, manicured fingernails and couldn't help comparing her strong hands to smaller, dainty hands with shorter nails, that once touched his hand .... He sighed.
"Cirrus, have you heard from Melanie?"
"No, and what makes matters worse, Dante and Sheena have unexpectedly taken a holiday."
"Ohh, where to?"
"That's just it, nobody at the club seems to know, or they're pretending not to."
"How long will they be away?"
"No one knows."
"What? That's odd."
"That's what I thought."
"When I questioned the bar manager, he told me Dante was taking Sheena on a romantic break away."
"Is that unusual?"
