Melanie tapped lightly at the door of Dr Anderson's office.

"Come in." He shouted.

"Damn, he sounds angry." She whispered to herself before opening the door.

When she opened the door he stood up immediately. Melanie felt uncomfortable the way he looked at her and she wanted to run away, far away back to her little cottage, back to ... no, she would not go back. She could never go back to him, but she so desperately needed to talk to someone who knew her and what she had gone through. Yes, she would call Sheena when she got home.

"Nurse Mckinney are you going to stand there, day dreaming all afternoon or are you going to come inside?"

"Sorry." She mumbled. She found him over bearing and could not look at him without feeling nervous, so she found a spot on his desk and trained her eyes on that. She did not want to appear rude, especially as he was the doctor in charge of the new student nurses.

"Hope you are ready for a busy afternoon. I expect you to keep up with me and suggest you take notes on the way around the ER. I don't like to repeat myself so you need to pay attention at all times. Is that clear."

"Yes Sir. I mean Dr Anderson." Was that a smile she saw? Did he actually smile at her?

"I think we will get along just fine Nurse Mckinney." He said as he walked around his desk and stood in front of her. "After you my dear."

She felt uncomfortable in such close proximity of him and quickly made her way through the open door, but not before he had a chance to put his hand in the small of her back and push her towards the door. She shivered inwardly.

The rest of the afternoon passed by in a blur as she found herself assisting wherever her experience could be helpful as the emergencies poured in. She couldn't help noticing that whenever she looked up Dr Anderson was watching her. Why he had taken it upon himself to chaperone her every movement left her feeling uneasy.

Melanie hoped he did not intend watching over her like this, every time she came on duty. Yes, she had stitches but she was still very capable of doing her work to the best of her ability under the circumstances.

At the end of her shift Dr Anderson called her aside before she left.

"Nurse Mckinney, I see you will need a lot more instruction in this department and under my mentoring you will receive all the training you require to make you into a more than satisfactory ER nurse. Now I suggest you go and get some much needed rest before you start work again tomorrow."

"Thank you Dr Anderson." She could not understand why he was taking such a vested interest in her and she was aware of him watching her as she made her way out the exit doors. She hesitated before pushing the doors open. She didn't want to turn around, but she just had to know if he was still watching her leave. Just as she was about to turn around the door swung open as paramedics wheeled another emergency patient in. She stepped back and glanced quickly in the direction where Dr Anderson had been standing. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw him step forward to assist the new patient, but she was caught off guard when he suddenly looked up in her direction and nodded at her. She gave him a half a smile and hoped he couldn't see how false it was.

From somewhere outside she heard a helicopter landing and knew another emergency was on its way in. She pushed the door open and hurried out of the way.

Back in her room she kicked off her shoes and collapsed onto her bed. It had been a fast paced afternoon and she realised she would have to be alert and fit to cope with the pressures of the ER. She decided then and there to sign up to a gym.

Melanie stared at her phone trying to decide whether or not to call Sheena. She hadn't kept in touch as she'd promised and wondered if it was just best to put everything and everyone in her past behind her now.

As she lay on her bed with her feet up against the wall, staring at the ceiling she listened to the ringing tone coming from her phone.

"Hello."

Melanie wasn't expecting a man's voice to answer Sheena's phone and she hung up immediately. Who had Sheena's phone? Did she dial the right number? She waited a few minutes before trying again.

"Sheena's phone, hello."

Melanie dropped the phone as if it had burnt her. What was Cirrus doing answering Sheena's phone?

"Hello, hello, are you there?"

Cirrus's voice rang through her ears and thudded into her heart like a bullet. Her phone lay face up on the carpet with Sheena's picture on the screen. A terrifying thought struck her. Was her face now staring at Cirrus when he answered Sheena's phone?

Melanie reached over the bed with her foot and with her toe she turned off her phone.

"Sheena, someone called you but when I answered they never said anything, just hung up." Cirrus said as he handed her phone back to her.

"Thanks." Sheena said as she handed Cirrus and Dante their drinks.

Sheena scanned through her phone and saw the call was from a withheld number and decided they would call back if it was important. She went back to the bar to collect her drink and then sat across the table from Dante and Cirrus.

"Has anyone heard from Melanie?" Cirrus asked, looking directly at Sheena.

"No, I haven't." She said, looking him in the eye.

"Sheena would not lie." Dante said, when Cirrus looked at him. "And you know she would not contact me. She has never asked for my number." Dante put his hand on Cirrus's shoulder. "You need to move on my friend. You and Melanie come from two different worlds and neither of you can make the changes required to be compatible."

"May I speak Master."

"Of course Sheena."

"Cirrus, would you like me to arrange another sub for you. It's been nearly two months since you were last here."

"Has Crystal been in lately?"

Sheena and Dante exchanged looks. Neither of them expected Cirrus to ask about her.

"No, I haven't seen her since the last time she was with you." Sheena looked across at Dante.

"I haven't seen her either." Dante said.

"If you can get in touch with her, then I would like to have her." Cirrus looked across at Sheena.

"But... I just never thought you'd want to see her after..."

"If Cirrus would like to play with Crystal again, maybe you could try get in touch with her." Dante interrupted her as he stood up and held out his hand to Sheena. "If you will excuse us Cirrus, Sheena and I have our own play date now." He curled his fingers around Sheena's hand and pulled her to her feet.

"It's good to see you back at the club Cirrus." Sheena smiled at him as she stood up. "I will definitely do my best to contact Crystal for you."

"Thanks Sheena and if you do ever hear from Melanie, please tell her... tell her I hope she is happy and I wish her well."

Sheena nodded as she felt Dante tug at her hand impatiently. Her Master wanted to play and it was time to put all else aside.
