Chapter 18: Bird Set Free

P.O.V Ally

After more exams and more tests, they finally let me go home with Brandon and Stella who were eager to finally stay awake with me for a while after seeing me standing there in that hospital bed.  Lea discharged me and said she was anxious for things to be right... What things?

Brandon insisted on taking me to his house, but I didn't want to, I wanted to go back to my den and stay there drinking hot chocolate and looking at drawings in that dull room in my house, I heard Brandon talking to someone on the phone and his expression was worried .

- Is everything okay, Brandon?

I asked as he drove, Stella had taken the back seat to make me more comfortable with my older brother.

- You are, Ally.  Why?

- You look tense...

- Ally, you know that girl who was in your room when you woke up?

- Doctor Lea?

- No, Lauren.

- Ah... The white girl with the green eyes.  Brandon, I don't know what she wants but I swear I have nothing to do with her.  Don't tell Father anything...

- Hey hey calm down!  I'm not here to judge you girl.

He parked the car in a restaurant and we got out, he chose a table near the window and the three of us sat down, but it was as if only he and I were there, Stella just watched her husband's every speech and nodded as if she was aware of everything that he spoke.  Which I wasn't.

- Back to the subject, Lauren didn't lie.  At least as far as I know.

- And what do you know?

Brandon folded his hands in front of his face and cleared his throat looking at me seriously, it reminded me of when I was up to something or when I wanted to go after Troy and he told me off.  Mom and Dad weren't home much due to work, which made Brandon almost a father to me.

- Listen Ally, I want you to know that every time I showed up in that hospital I ran into that girl, always taking care of you.  I invited her to a dinner and I heard you had something, sometime later Lauren almost killed Max George because he tried to kill you, and to close it with a flourish, your doctor... Dr. Darren gave you medication so wrong and Lauren figured it out and hit him.  Stop to think Allyson, why would a stranger do that?!  Why?!

   I curled up in my chair as a waitress approached with our orders, Brandon's words were like slapping me in the face, really Lauren could be a good woman but... I never liked girls which would be crazy if I liked her .

- Brandon... I've never liked women, don't you think it's crazy for me to date one?

- I would if I hadn't met Lauren.  By the way... You had cardiac arrest last week and Lauren walked into that room past all the doctors and gave you a kiss... I know it's crazy, but that kiss brought you back.

- To Brandon!  What got into you?  I have never seen that woman in my life.

- Bran, let her...

I heard Stella say quietly as I ate silently and a little flustered.

- Sorry Allyson, I didn't mean to be rude.

- Have you heard from Troy?

- Are you still hooked on that asshole?

- Don't talk about him like that, he's a sweetheart.

- He's so sweet that when mom called him to say you were in a coma, he said he had some important things to do.
