三十 The promise of the throne
In the middle of the court, several old and traditional ministers were arguing with the new and hot-blooded ministers that has claimed their position in a mere two years.
They each have a side and the elders wanted to reach a peace treaty with the incoming princess of the Mongols and marry her off to one of the princes to consolidate peace. The other side, where new ministers who were deemed reckless for their innovation wanted nothing of that; they wanted war and disclosed the disadvantage that the unstable peace treaty will give.
The Emperor, son of heaven, was sitting on the throne with his palm under his chin as he studied with mirth the ministers arguing. It was just a game between the old and the new that was swept under the floor and now resurfacing.
"Minister Sima must be jesting, how can we abandon the treaty for a war that is not even sure to be won?"
It struck anger to the Minister of war and he responded angrily. "This minister has led the war for as long as I have lived, our dynasty has produced generals that could wipe off tribes and has successfully expanded our territories- we will not fall on the requirements of those barbarians!"
With his thunderous words it's as if everyone was revitalized, the hot-blooded ministers grew more louder while the elders shake their heads at their foolishness.
It was a reckless matter to do, war is imminent and yet everyone else would still want it to happen; for the wealth that those lands accumulated, the territories to expand and the new positions and status that comes off from taking those lands.
Their voices were silenced once the Emperor held his hand up, the ministers both young and old looked up at him with their heads respectfully lowered to the ground at the same time.
"What do the princes think?"
It was now the turn of the Emperor, the imperial princes knew it was a test, one that would either win their imperial father's approval or displeasure.
"This son-official will start first"
"You may" say the Emperor.
"The elders are right" the new ministers expressed their drilling subtly. "War isn't what we need but cooperation, as everyone knows the Mongol tribe has been our enemy for hundreds of year's yet we are still unable to set forth to their lands and claim it as our own"
Even if the others didn't express their contempt they could only accept the reality. The Mongols have been with them long before their dynasty even took place; it was hard to get into their lands and put a mole to investigate their power and what they are capable of; it's, even more, harder now that their princess died and it was because they accepted another princess that they were not been attacked.
"Forgive me for interrupting you, the second brother. The war will happen no matter how much we talk of peace. How are we even sure if we could trust this peace-"
"This wouldn't have stained their trust if it weren't for the princess' death" Fu Jun Long interrupted him and that made the veins of the second prince, Fu Jun Zhong, even more prominent.
"The waist tablet of this prince was taken by a jealous soldier of this prince" he gritted, Fu Jun Zhong knew that it was this fact that made him hate the real person that made him take this crime. "Besides that, treaty of peace has met with betrayals and moles into the palace, if the first brother read the history of our dynasty then he'll know" he stabbed back to him.
Even if without seeing he knew the fury rolling off his aura and he relished into it, basked to the fact that he made this pompous, rule-abiding brother of his Lose his composure.
