Innocence.

If it was another woman with such an ingrained idea of innocence shall only be given to the person you love after marriage— Meng Jia Yi does not care about this at all.

Men have put such emphasis on innocence and virginity that a woman without it is a woman that is not worth it.

It was as if they are not worthy of respect anymore, used goods that are ought to be discarded. But Meng Jia Yi can only compromise, innocent or what was left of it be hell if her survival is at cross swords with it.

She would rather choose to lose it than to be put on a pedestal and be submerged in public scrutiny.

"Miss... Oh, this slave means Your highness... Your highness is needed to wake up to greet the Emperor and Empress to the palace"

Meng Jia Yi resisted the urge to just sleep till noon, her body felt like it wasn't hers anymore and the beast that made her body like this was nowhere to be found.

As she stood up, she winced and ordered XiXi to get her a bath ignoring the embarrassing state she shows. The wooden barrel designated to be like a modern tub made her feel languid as she relaxes into the warm water filled with floral scents.

"XiXi, prepare my garments"

"Yes, your highness" she didn't flinch but felt complicated as she watched the water recede to her bosom, the marks that we're left off of her body made her wash her skin till it turn red and as if another layer of her skin was peeled off.

'I must survive' she promised to herself.

There were no bashful expressions nor did her attitude change after being crowned as the third prince's Wangfei; all of these titles and wealth are not hers, she would leave in the future and will have nothing to do with it in the future.

She just hopes that the people she cares for would go along with her plan.

Not long after the clothes she ordered to XiXi had been placed near her; she dried her hair and her skin that has been dealt with in extreme cleaning. Droplets of water fell from her hair to her collarbone as the marks on her body made her eyes irritated.

Calming down, she closed her eyes, there is not much time left. Endure, all she could do now is to endure.

"Greeting to your highness"

The new servants bowed their heads, each on their hands was a pile of jewelry for hair and body; sachets and scents along with numerous rogue and cosmetics placed in one wooden tray.

Meng Jia Yi chose festive red attire and applied delicately make-up on her face; the servants on her side were all stunned to see her beautiful face turned even more gorgeous with the embellishments that she was adorned with. Those apricot eyes charmingly lifted to the mirror as she applied rogue into her already pink, plump lips; her fingertips were bare of hardships and as she walked out of her room, eyes followed her like a beacon into the night.

Their mistress is such a beauty and with her status as the wangfei after all when a man becomes an immortal, even the cats and dogs benefit. Favor and maternal background set their mistress apart from future concubines— it was also clear in their eyes that their Mistress was heavily favored today after seeing the amount of dowry and respect that the third prince showed to her before and after marriage.

"Greetings to the third prince!"

A greeting for the third prince resounded into the inner yard, servants bowed their heads as the brilliant aura of their master shone through and weaved into their mistress. Instantly, their vision was filled with the immortal couple in front of them. They are match-made in heaven, alas!

"Your highness-"

"My Wangfei, you forgot again?" Amusement rolled off his tone even after he sighs.

Acting shocked, Meng Jia Yi started to act. "Well... forgive me, husband" her coy antics drew a smile from the third prince.

Her so-called husband.

Forehead slightly poked from his fingers, the two of them did their best to show their affections from one another. It was sickening to her stomach but she resisted the urge to vomit, surviving isn't easy after all.

Maids of low birth and young, bold minds felt moved in their hearts. They think that if the third miss who has been swamped with rumors and such low birth status could be the Wangfei then why can't they?

"Let us go" he held out his palm, it was war,m, unlike his cold, clear eyes.

Palace grounds has never felt so dreadful to her, just a few months ago she never would have thought that she would become a part of these cruel cannibals.

Her lips were suddenly touched and she releases her lip from her constraint. Eyes lifted to see the understanding bare for anyone to see.

"Don't worry, father emperor is a benevolent, wise ruler" he lied.

Of course, she could easily deduce his lies when it comes to his perception of his father emperor. But she wouldn't poke it, no she wouldn't, she's not that stupid.

"Thank you, husband" she bashfully replied, her hands caught into his as he gently comforted her with his hold.

It wasn't long after that she finally see the intimidating palace walls that once you get used to, will pull you into intoxication. As the carriage entered the palace she could feel the coldness that seems to seep out on its crevices; dozens of servants and guards could be seen in the hazy curtain hiding them from the probing eyes of the mass.

Reaching the total inner yard, the doors of the carriage opened as she stepped down with the help of Fu Jun Bei. The palace still gives her this impending doom that would befall on her, it has gotten worse after she learned that she will die as cannon fodder when the fight for the throne intensified, and now that she's very much close to where the wind and the waves were the fiercest, it was clear that she's going to die.

With her head a little muddled they continued their pace and heard Fu Jun Bei greeting the close confidant of the Emperor.

"Congratulations to the marriage of the third prince!"

Soon they reached the royal hall where the Emperor and the Empress were seated next to each other along with the prince and princesses sitting there with probing, calculating eyes.

"Greetings to father Emperor, to empress mother and to my brothers and sisters" Fu Jun Fen started which Meng Jia Yi sang along with.

Looking at the crowd of the royal family, Meng Jia Yi knew that she would soon be thrust into the world of the capitalist and in this time— the most noblest of all.

It didn't take her to affirm that thought when a princess poke around the matter of her disappearance and sudden appearance at her maternal's home.

Notes:

• Going to the palace to greet the royal family is a tradition if the groom or bride is part of the royal family.
When a man becomes an immortal, even the cats and dogs benefit means that when a person becomes an official or rise in rank, everyone related to him will follow suit
Where the wind and the waves were the fiercest is a Chinese idiom meaning at the heart of the struggle
