三十六 The downfall of the Mongolian princess
Meng Jia Yi knew that the moment she enter the palace she will have the same fate as the Mongolian princess, maybe a worse fate than hers.
Crying her soul out for injustice, no one spare a pitiful glance nor helpful aid from the Mongolian princess. After leaving her homeland she was subjected to this— a pawn for the princes to surge forward and continue their quest for the throne.
"Let go of this princess, let go! This princess is not a criminal, unhand this princess now!" She screams but it's as if the imperial guards were empty of their senses as they dragged her to the center of the hall.
The center of the palace where the royal family judged a person on their talent and merit as well as inflicted injustice and punishment.
"Poisoning the Emperor...." The first prince trails off before his sharp, suspicious eyes zeroed to the subdued Mongolian princess. "Is it the real purpose of the Mongolian tribe? To infiltrate the Han empire and kill the Emperor?"
With his words the crowd roused in indignation and anger, the women folk held onto their selves as they feared for the war; the imperial guards have not let their guards down and continued to be vigilant; the noblemen discusses the punishment and declaration of war towards the Mongol tribe.
"It wasn't this princess's fault! This princess doesn't know what his highness the first prince is saying! This princess was given to the Han empire to be wedded to the second prince in an act of treaty!" She cried out and the mass turned their eyes to the second prince.
He panicked. He was enraged. He burst out.
"Don't you dare taint this prince's reputation! Treaty?! It was you, the Mongol tribes, that almost killed this prince's Emperor father!"
The retainers of the first prince were cunning, they easily guided the frightened nobles and whispers doubt to their hearts.
Is the Second prince a part of this scheme?
Will the Second prince ally himself to the Mongol tribe and kill the Emperor and reign the throne?
"Enough, the Mongolian princess and her envoys and guards should be questioned first before making a decision. Let the Dali temple handle the investigation to ensure fairness" he announced and the crowd was less panicked with his calming tone.
It was the third prince, the prominent figure of today's celebration that turned into a murder spree. It was the third prince that gained the masses' goodwill for the first prince was too arrogant and stuck to the old values while the second prince was a violent, bloodthirsty man.
Mind weighing the pros and cons, those that were inclined to the neutral faction began to waver once more. It was clear that the third prince can influence the people just like a boat can only paddle against the harsh waves of the ocean with the help of the rowers.
Soon the crowd calmed down, the investigations for each of the guests has been finished and not long after the guests leave the palace with a rather big, scandalous news that would shock the entire nation.
Some would also think of their decisions and the factions that they are in, what matters is the strength of the new ruler and for that only time will tell.
...
The ride towards the Meng estate was filled with silence, pure, agonizing silence as they were helped and guarded by the third prince's guards.
It was unnerving, Meng Jia Yi thought, it should be better now that she's inside but she knew it wouldn't stay this way after they were alone.
"Help the missus up" Madam Sima says, the door opened and a man bowed down to the ground for them to step on.
