三十五 Golden mouth and jade words; a decree of marriage
Meng Jia Yi can only barely temper down the wrath that she kept sealed into her sleeves for as much as she wanted to strike a blow to this grinning, cunning prince in front of her she couldn't do it— she might as well die if she did.
The crowd was filled with congratulatory words ringing her ears making it bleed from the inside. Their eyes shone with greed, another connection to make, a pawn to use. Pretty words left her with nothingness, bare from all genuine and only showing interest for their own.
She was soon taken to the original's family, Madam Sima was having none of their sudden entertainment for the Meng clan and soon was seated to her side.
"We will talk about this later" the master of the Meng clan, Meng Qing Ruo lowly mentioned, she nodded dutifully ignoring the heated gaze of Meng Jia Yue and Madam Sima.
Perhaps she would be bombarded with questions and a lot of threatening.
Dancers of exotic clothing and musicians taking out their massive instruments filled the once two people in the center of the platform. Even if there were dances and singing, the eyes of the nobles were still on her, on the third prince and to their daughters.
If the third prince could have the illegitimate miss of the prime minister to be his legal wife then their daughters with much nobler status and outstanding talent could be placed into the third prince's yard.
If she was seriously in love, a dangerous and cliche word, she would have been burning in misery and injustice. Thankfully she will never fall in love.
Ever.
"Presenting to your majesty, the wine that our land has created!" She soon came out of her reverie and watched one of the envoys in the Mongol tribe offering a jug of precious wine to the Emperor.
A eunuch, a poison tester, came and tested the wine with a metal dipping it in order to test if poison was mixed into it before taking a sip of the wine. He waited for a minute or so and nodded to the eunuch beside him as the wine was passed to the Emperor's side.
"The wine of your clan smells of sweet fruit" the Emperor commented as he lifted the cup, one that was presented along with the wine in order to enhance its flavor and drank it all. "Reward!"
Envoys of the Mongol tribe bowed down as they thanked the Emperor for their rewards. The wine was then distributed to the noble mass, some who have wineries in their own were studying the wine itself while other wine potted stomach noblemen drank to their heart's content.
Until the Emperor coughed blood.
"The Emperor!"
"Poison! The Emperor is poisoned"
"Seize the Mongols!"
All the way through everyone panicked, it was like the grand hall of the imperial palace became a marketplace. The womenfolk were pale-faced; the Empress could only hold the Emperor's hand and order for the doors to seal shut; imperial consorts with each of their eyes reddening and wailing for the emperor to wake up; those who drank the wine urged to vomit out all of their remains and was clamoring for the doctors to arrive.
Disorderly.
Panic-stricken.
Havoc....
Lurking in the shadows is one of the descendants of the imperial family but with one curse impeached to him when he was just a newborn, his fate has been sealed away to the darkness and to never recover from the light.
But fate has a humorous way of fooling his life, he lives but his life was far lower than that of a dog; his biological mother died from childbirth and was seen as the harbinger of curse; he has to kill his emotions and morality at such a young age— even though those were not taught to him by his so-called servants.
He lived yet all he ever faced was suffering.
A broom star.
Eyes cold and unblinking as he watched the Emperor, his biological father he suppose, was now surrounded by imperial doctors after drinking an offered wine from the Mongol princess.
Interest never fancied his eyes as he remains with blankness until it stops into the figure of a young woman who looks like she was debating whether to kill the person in front of her or not.
Eyes so fierce it resembles that of a shackled wild animal, it should not venture off to a young lady with prominent background albeit her lower status, but it suits her.
The corner of his lips quirked up slightly, such a minuscule move of his muscles that he didn't even think he would do it hence the uncomfortable feeling.
"No one is allowed to leave this place!" The first prince roared while the second prince reigned himself easily and gathered all of the soldiers to roam around for suspected people.
"Imperial Doctor Wu, let the father emperor return to his chambers and make sure father emperor is alive or you will be subjected to killing along with the criminals"The third gentle prince spout out cruel, threatening words that did not match his old reputation but the others only linked it to his trembling wrists.
"His highness words is my command" the poor imperial doctor nodded fearing for his neck.
Soon the imperial guards along with the secret imperial guards that every Emperor have moved him to his chambers leaving the frightened noble ladies and shook noblemen to be surveyed.
Imperial guards made all the nobles line up, some resisted and were beaten while others were calmly dissuaded that they have nothing to do with the assassination of the Emperor.
Terror strikes the ladies, unmarried ones as they refused to be touched by the guards. Soon imperial palace maids were called out by the princes and were taken out into another room to be searched.
Fu Jun Fen watched the little miss and her trembling maid as they entered the room, his eyes began to wander around and saw the quivering lips of the Mongolian princess as she mouthed off some gibberish words.
It took him a few steps closer to their place that he could hear the words being spoken in a daze by her before she was taken to the room to be searched.
And at this time, as he ran through the darkness that accompanied him in all of his years living, the doors opened and the Imperial Doctor Wu came out with a pale face.
"The Emperor... the Emperor was poisoned by a poison only found in the Mongol tribe!"
His announcement was a nail in the coffin, eventually, the envoys and soldiers of the Mongol tribe were taken by the order of the First prince while the second prince subjected himself to the role of a shocked filial son betrayed by his fiancee's vicious act.
The war for the throne has finally moved.
Notes:
• Imperial Secret guards, I know there are special secret guards only dedicated to the Emperor. They swore loyalty only to the king, hid among the shadows and sometimes is an army only the Emperor can control.
• Broom star, meaning a bearer of ill-luck.
• Golden mouth and jade words mean Emperor’s words, words that carry great weight.
• Poison tester, there is a poison tester in every Emperor's side and they also test metallic chopsticks since if there was a poison put into the food the metal would react and darken from what I remember.***
