Song of the chapter:
I Want You To Know ft. Selena Gomez by Zedd
__________Sundays were my days off. And by that, I meant my only day off from work and school. However, Sundays were typically the busiest days of the week for me. I caught up on homework, housework, and anything else I needed to get done. Due to that, I was never asked to fill in for anybody at the diner because my dad knew how busy my day already was going to be.
By eleven o'clock that morning, I had left Anna's house to begin my day. And by six o'clock that evening, all of my homework assignments and housework chores were done. My mom and I usually finished cleaning up the house around dinnertime every Sunday, and then we went to the diner to eat and visit my dad and other family members working. It was kind of a tradition.
Unlike many other teenagers across the world, I liked Sundays and I liked doing chores with my mom. I didn't like the actual cleaning part, but I enjoyed spending time with my mom considering I didn't see her very much.
Mom was a realtor, and she also handled the income from the diner. She was very smart- some probably labeled her as brilliant. She had incredible work ethic and a powerful presence. It was no wonder why I was the way I was. I grew up in a household where both of my parents made money and they considered themselves as equals.
While we ate dinner at the diner with my dad and a few of my cousins, I couldn't shake the uneasiness in the pit of my stomach. The last time I was at the diner, I had my first and only experience with Justin Bieber. It didn't bother me until Anna opened her big mouth and gushed over how attractive he was and how he "wanted" me. It made me reconsider.
"Did you finish your homework, kiddo?" Dad asked from beside me as he wiped his hands with his napkin.
I swallowed my mouthful of hamburger and nodded. "Yeah. I didn't have much anyways."
"That's a first," Mom added.
I laughed and took a sip of my iced tea, knowing she had a point. As I said before, Sundays were my day to do all of my homework and catch up on anything I missed.
My parents continued to converse about something else and seconds later, my cousin Kate turned to me. She was two years younger than me, but she had an actual job at the diner in order to help out her family. Money was tight for them, so working at the diner was a good way for her to pitch in.
"I forgot to tell you," she twirled her salad around her plate with her fork. "some kid asked for you today. At least, I think it was for you. He was real cute, but didn't give me a name."
My throat was immediately dry, but I couldn't help but be more than intrigued. It had to have been Justin. Who else could it have been, anyways? I didn't know of any other boy who was interested in me as of recently. "Wait, what? What did he say? Like, exactly, what did he say?"
She squinted her brown eyes as if recollecting on the boy's words. "He sat down at the counter and I gave him a menu, just like I would for anyone else. He looked through it for a bit, then when I came back over to take his order, he asked me who the girl was that closed the restaurant on Friday night. I told him that it was supposed to be Paulina, but we had someone come in for her since she called in sick. He asked for a name, and I told him yours. He said thank you and left. He didn't order anything at all. It was weird."
My eyes widened. "What? Did you give him my last name? Please tell me you didn't give him that."
"No, no, of course not!" she assured me, tucking her brown hair behind her ear. "Jesus, Kennedy. Do you know this guy? Is there something I should know about him?"
