Chapter 16 - The Action

Bucky arrived at the Avengers compound a little before 9 pm. When he arrived, the team was preparing to leave to Cologne, Germany, where the Flag Smashers were found. Sam had ordered Clint, Kate, Riri, Rhodey and Bucky to be the ground team. While Kamala and Torres were ordered to be the pilot and co-pilot of the quinjet they were going to use to go to Germany. Sam himself would be part of the ground team. Two other jets were piloted by SHIELD agents. Each carried 6 trained agents to be their back up team.

"How many members of the Flag Smashers have you found?" Bucky asked Sam while they waited for the other members to board the quinjet. Bucky had put on his suit back at his apartment, so when he arrived he was ready to go.

"We identified 20, but there might be more. The place they're hiding at is quite big. It could be their headquarters." Sam explained.

"Oh, that explains why you're bringing back up." Bucky said.

"Yeah..I'm taking precautions. Who knows what they're capable of. Better safe than sorry." Sam said.

"You think they might be super soldiers like the previous members?" Bucky asked.

"Could be. I've heard chatter on the black market of a new super soldier serum being sold." Sam answered.

"Wow. I thought they were all destroyed." Bucky was surprised.

"Yeah. Maybe it's a different type. I have no clue at this point. It's just better to be prepared." Sam said. Bucky nodded in agreement.

"Where's Bruce by the way?" Bucky asked.

"He's got something else to take care of. Something about The Mandarin and Ten Rings." Sam explained.

"What? Who?" Bucky asked, confused.

"The Mandarin is a terrorist as far as I know. He once kidnapped the vice president. I thought Tony killed him, but apparently not. About the Ten Rings..I don't know much either, Bruce said something about adding new members to the team." Sam explained.

"Well, we could use more members. The more the merrier." Bucky said.

"Since when do you like more people?" Sam asked teasingly.

"Oh don't tease me Sam. I just think it would be better if there are more people in the team, considering we're preparing for an alien invasion." Bucky said referring to the Kree invasion.

"Yeah. Hopefully by the time they got here there will be enough heroes to fight them." Sam said.

"Oh by the way, I..uh.. accidentally let slip to Adriana that we're preparing for an alien invasion. And.." Bucky stopped mid sentence upon seeing Sam's angry face.

"Bucky, you're not supposed to tell anyone about that." Sam ground his teeth angrily

"Sorry.. sorry.. really.. I'm really sorry. It just slipped my tongue. But..she won't tell anyone. I'm sure she won't. She actually provided a really good idea." Bucky defended himself.

Sam sighed. "What idea?"

"Well..she suggested that we should tell people about it so that everyone will be better prepared. Just like when there's a storm, people are notified so they can take shelter. Don't you think that if we have time to prepare to fight we also have time to evacuate people? We can minimize casualties that way." Bucky said.

Sam was quiet for a moment, he then said.

"You're right. I have to take this up to Carol and Fury first though. But it's a good idea. Considering what has happened in the past, I think the general public are much better prepared to hear news like this. And hopefully we can avoid panic and chaos." Sam said.
