chapter twenty-eight

[ chapter twenty-eight: epilogue ]

"Hi, babe."

Renjun walked into the recording studio happily, his eyes wandering around the new set up Minyeon had just finished creating.

"It looks good," he complimented her, setting down a cup of hot chocolate and a muffin on her desk.

She thanked him with a smile, standing up to kiss his cheek before sitting back down to continue with the new song she was writing.

"How far are you?" Renjun asked, bending over her chair with his chin resting on her head. She welcomed the familiar touch, continuing along without complaint.

She hummed to the beat in her head, singing along with the lyrics she had written. "I actually just finished the last part. Wanna sing another demo for me?"

She looked up at her boyfriend, a sweet smile on her lips as her hands clasped together. Renjun backed away, a soft smile on his lips as he held his hands up.

"I don't know, Mins," he sighed.

The red-haired girl continued pleading, her hands tight together. "Please! You have such a good voice. People would pay millions just to hear you singing, I know it."

Renjun shook his head, bashful at the comment she was always saying to him. "No, they wouldn't."

Minyeon rolled her eyes and took a sip of her hot chocolate, clearly having differing options when compared to the blonde boy sitting on her new couch.

"Renjun, I am so serious when I say you have one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard," she shrugged.

Renjun shook his head, slumping down in the couch as he reached into his back pocket for his phone. "You're just saying that because you like me so much."

Minyeon hummed, ignoring the side smile on the boys face. "I suppose that could contribute. But even if I were just some normal person walking down the street and I heard your voice, I would definitely be like, wow that guy really has a nice voice."

The sound of familiar footsteps just outside the studio made Minyeon smile. She took a few steps towards the door and opened it just in time to spot Aera walking by about to go into Donghyuck's studio.

"Hey, Aera, could you come here for a sec?" Minsoo called out to her.

The now red-haired girl nodded, making her way towards Minyeon's studio without complaint.

Her hand slipped a bit harder off of Donghyuck's doorknob, startling him a bit when he heard it shake.

He was quick to walk over to the door, opening it to see his girlfriend walking towards Minyeon.

"What's going on?" He called out to the two.

Aera shrugged, still continuing towards her friend. Minyeon didn't say anything either, only using her hands to motion for Donghyuck to join them.

When the couple finally made it into the studio, she shut the door and approached her computer. She smiled as she opened a specific audio file and grabbed two headphones to connect.

"Put these on for me," she instructed politely, handing over the two devices.

Donghyuck and Aera put on the headphones without question, already used to coming into their friends studio to listen to her different demos.

It didn't take long for the song to eventually start. The lyrics were meaningful and the tune was enough to keep the two engaged all the way to the end.

When the song was finally over, they removed the headphones and gave them back to a smiling Minyeon.

"So what'd you think?"

Aera nodded, "it's really good. I liked how the beats slowly got faster but weren't overwhelming."

Donghyuck nodded, "me too. Who sung this though? I haven't heard any of the usuals that record the demos sound like this."

"Oh, yeah! They're voice was pretty nice," Aera nodded.

Minyeon smiled as she looked back over to Renjun. He just shook his head, smiling to himself while he still stared at his phone.

"Renjun sung it?" Aera gawked, astonished as to how Minyeon could've possibly gotten the boy to sing.

"Aww," Donghyuck smiled, walking over to his friend. "I always knew you had a precious voice," he teased, rubbing Renjun's head and messing up his hair.

Renjun flared up at him playfully before smacking his hand away, not too amused with the idea of having to fix his hair once again.

"No but seriously, why aren't you working more with out demo team? Your voice is really good," Donghyuck smiled. He walked back over towards Minyeon, looking closer at the file pulled up on her computer. "You've got more?"

Minyeon nodded, "a bunch."

Donghyuck straightened out his posture, "well I guess that could be enough to try getting you on the demo team, Jun. You in?"

Renjun sat up slowly, his eyebrows slightly pulled down. "I don't know, you guys."

Aera held her hands together, "come on, Renjun. It's super fun recording the songs. You'll love it."

The blonde boy sighed and looked back over at his girlfriend who sat in her producer chair with a hopeful smile.

He threw his head back, hiding his own smile for a second. "Fine, I'll join the team."
