NORTH PRESSED HER FINGERS against the keys of her piano, playing the beginning notes to Mareux's The Perfect Girl.
It had been weeks, or rather, about a month, of Vi visiting North's house and hanging out with her during the night. She would drop by via the balcony evert couple of days, which gradually became more frequent as more time passed.
North genuinely enjoyed Vi's company more than she initially thought she would even though she had been the one to even put forward the idea of meeting up multiple times.
She was like a breath of fresh air, and at the same time, so like North. Every night was so comforting; just sitting around, chatting, eating sweets, playing games. Vi would laugh at North's rich kid troubles while North would listen to Vi's stories about Zaun.
Vi was someone who North could be herself around, and it was such a relieving feeling not having to worry about the opinions of her peers, or her one other friend, or her family, or the public.
It was funny to think about; a topsider and an underling finding contentment in each other's presence. All of the reservations they both had about one another and where they lived had made them believe for as long as they were alive that their people were too different to ever fit together.
And yet, even with their differences, they had many similarities that let them mix with ease like blood in water.
Neither of the girls had told any of their friends or family about each other.
Vi had been able to get away with sneaking out for a while, and thus, she had no reason to.
That night, North had set up a bunch of snacks and drinks on her coffee table, expecting Vi to show up at the usual time. However, as midnight began to pass and Vi remained absent, she found herself frowning a little.
Surely, she was just a bit late.
And so, to keep herself from worrying too much, North decided to play her keyboard.
As she tapped the keys with her fingers, she took a brief pause, trying to remember the next few notes of the song.
Then, all of a sudden, she was startled by the sound of clapping from behind her.
North turned her head back quickly, and there, she saw Vi clapping her hands, applauding her as she walked into her bedroom from the balcony.
North huffed as she relaxed her shoulders and turned in her seat. "Late." She scolded, standing up.
"Sorry, shortcake. Lost track of time." Vi apologized.
"The food is room temperature already." North grumbled, to which Vi gave a lopsided smile.
