VI STARED UP at the wooden ceiling built above her as she laid on the top bed of her bunk, the back of her head resting in her palm.
The deep darkness of the night swallowed the room whole with only Powder's nightlight bringing a source of mild brightness.
Listening to the sound of sheets tussling from movement and snoring, some snores louder than others, Vi lowered her eyelids and looked downward as she went into thought.
When she went to talk to Vander earlier that day, she received quite the talking to, as she expected. It wasn't anything above the average lecture she'd get.
To her, just seeing the look on Powder's face when she returned home was punishment enough.
The worry in her voice, the glossy gleam from her teary eyes... it was a painful sight seeing her younger sister cry. Especially over her own actions.
That guilt left Vi with an unpleasant feeling that clung with a tight grip, refusing to leave her alone.
And even then, there was another feeling that was driving her to go back to North.
Going to that girl's house was like an escape from everything else in the world. Vi felt free at North's home. She felt like herself. She could let loose and have as much fun as she wanted without the worries or responsibilities of having to portray herself as a role model.
No stress, no work, no pressure, nothing of the sort. Just fun.
Peaceful conversations whilst eating sweets. Laying on North's amazingly comfortable bed, watching movies and playing games on her laptop...
North's worry for her, her excitement when showing her new things, that look in her eyes like, 'You're such a fucking idiot'...
That was the kind of thing Vi couldn't get anywhere else from anybody else.
The connection that she had built with North... although she found that forming a friendship with a Piltie was odd at first, there was no denying it now. She liked North a lot more than she imagined she ever would.
Her friendship was something Vi wanted to keep.
Tensing her lips, Vi let out an exhale before she slowly sat up. Then, after quietly making her way down from her bunk and to the floor, she picked her bag up from the floor and started heading toward the basement door.
