NORTH RAN out of the building and into the pouring rain with only her arms to shield her from the tears of the clouds up above in the sky.

Vi was not too far ahead of her, walking away from North despite hearing her name being called from behind her repeated.

"Vi! Wait!" North shouted, Vi ignoring her pleas. "Vi, wait, I said!" North repeated more loudly as she reached forward and grabbed Vi's wrist, Vi halting and yanking her arm out of North's grasp. "Where are you going?" North asked her.

"I don't know. Back where I came from? Seems like that's what everyone up here wants." Vi replied with sass.

"We can still fix this." North told her.

"We can't!" Vi shouted in disagreement, startling North quite a bit. "This is how things are. How they've always been. I was so stupid to think it could change." Vi said in frustration with the Council and herself, placing her hands on her hips.

"There has to be something else we can do, Vi. Something. We'll figure it out somehow, but we can't just give up here. We have to try." North tried to convince her.

"We tried. Okay? It wasn't enough. Topside and bottom. Oil and water. That's all there is." Vi argued with North, turning away from her.

"...What about us?" North asked softly.

Vi briefly turned her head towards North, then she looked away again. "There is no us. Just...oil and water. Wasn't meant to be."

North sighed as her eyes began to sting with tears hearing the very response she dreaded come out of Vi's mouth.

"You don't mean that." She denied.

"This is the way it'll always be. Our people were never meant to mix in the first place." Vi muttered, shaking her head. "Your place is up here, and mine is down there. So just do yourself a favor, shortcake. Go back into that big, shiny building and just... forget me, okay?" She requested with sorrow, her voice growing softer as she spoke.

"Don't do this to me again. You can't." North pleaded desperately, Vi's lips curving into a sad frown.

It took everything in her, every last bit of strength not to give in to that expression of hurt on North's beautiful face.

Vi then threw her hood over her head and started to walk away from North without anything else said.

North's lips parted with every voice inside her head screaming at her to stop Vi.
