The lights, they shone all around me, reminding me that yet another holiday season was coming swiftly upon us. I used to love Christmas, but these lights seem to carry a different tone behind them nowadays.
No matter how bright the light shone, it did not rid me of the darkness that loomed within; rather, the rays bored into me, reflecting every ounce of unwelcome loneliness that lingered like the plague in this deserted wasteland. Not a caroler was singing, not one child filled the air with their melodic laugher. It was just me alone with these taunting, cheery lights that used to signify a holiday that was once so full of joy.
