Beomgyu chuckled next to me and I snapped out of my daze. "You're cute", he smiled and I blushed. "Your surprise was a thorough success", I confessed and took a last look at the endless ocean of fairy lights that decorated the street leading to the Christmas market. "Of course it was", he smirked and pecked my cheek, "Your surprise too." I looked at him confused: "What surprise?" "Your eyes are even more sparkling and beautiful than all those decorations together." I hit him lightly, not sure of how to answer. He laughed softly and then pulled me further to get to our actual destination. "Why even making all this fuss?", I asked, "I told you that I am content with just chilling at home together." "Are you kidding?", he gave back, "Only the best for my baby. We barely have time for each other anyways." It's not that I minded. I knew that he loved to surprise me with small or big things. But this was a new level. We met each other in his home country Korea shortly after my family moved there for business reasons. I had been out with my friends and so had he. Somehow, he had me wrapped around his finger so fast that I still couldn't believe it. And it was pretty cute to see how it had been the same for him.
Last month I told him that I missed my hometown more than ever, since especially the time before Christmas was filled with a lot of memories of baking cookies, going to Christmas markets or make gifts together with my friends. He had tried to replace it the best he could. Sure, baking and gift shopping with Beomgyu was really fun and I felt happy, but it wasn't the same. And nothing could beat the Christmas market at my hometown. Before I knew it, he had told me that he had planned a very special surprise for me and if I would be okay with get my Christmas present earlier than usually. I told him that I wouldn't mind at all, he should do whatever. And suddenly I sat in an airplane to Germany. He had it all planned beforehand: We met with my relatives, my friends, we baked cookies and went shopping or tried our best to produce acceptable home-made gifts. Which was pretty funny, to say the least. And now we were here, in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, my hometown, known as one of the most beautiful places in Germany and headed straight to the Christmas market.
"You know, I always wanted to see your hometown. It's even prettier than I thought, judging by the photos I know", Beomgyu said, "Might be because you're here with me. You always make everything prettier." I blushed. "You're in top form today, huh?", I mumbled. He grinned and decided to stop with the flirting for now. "Do you think we can turn this beautiful city into a big poster for our future home?", he asked instead. "I guess", I answered thoughtful. "I would like that", he smiled and pulled me closer to him. "Me too", I replied.
As we reached the Christmas market, I stopped in my tracks, overwhelmed by emotions. "You're alright?", Beomgyu asked carefully and I nodded, looking at him with sparkling eyes. "I never thought the two of us would stand here and enjoy this atmosphere together", I confessed. He smiled softly: "I don't think it will be the last time though." "I would love that", I confessed. "I will remember that", he chuckled and bent over to give me a short kiss. After pulling away, his loving gaze lingered on me for some seconds before he took my hand and gently lead me deeper into the Christmas market. "Come on, let's go", he said as we set off.
It was a magical evening. We wandered around and my inner child got awakened. I ran around excitedly and showed him every small little detail I found interesting. Which was basically everything. He constantly smiled and called me cute. Whatever awakened my curiosity got considered buying by him. On behalf of his wallet I talked him out of it most of the time. But a wooden heart and a pair of earrings changed owner, nonetheless. When I talked him into trying chestnuts, he was genuinely surprised. In a positive way, luckily. Afterwards, we strolled from one booth to the next, trying different snacks and ended up standing in front of a manger, a cup of mullet wine in our hands to warm the cold fingers.
"Seeing the manger at any Christmas market always calmed me. That was one of the many things that made me feel like Christmas. I don't know how to say it. It's just something that belongs to it, you know?", I said. He nodded slowly. "That sounds about right", he thought out loud and pulled me into a side hug. I let my head drop on his chest. "And this feels about right", I mumbled. I suddenly got tired. Alcohol always had that effect on me and he knew. He laughed softly. "It feels perfectly right if you ask me", he teased me. "You know that I meant that", I complained lazily and kissed his chest. "Yes, I do, princess", he said and blew a kiss on the crown of my head. Standing like this, just enjoying each other's presence and comfort, we silently finished our mullet wine and decided to go back home. Tomorrow we would fly back to Korea and even though I felt a bit sad about it, I also was happy to go back to the country that now also was my home. And this had just been the perfect end for our little holiday.
"Hey princess", Beomgyu said before we headed to our rooms to sleep. "Hmm?", I asked and turned back. "I love you", he said and pulled me to him, his eyes locked with mine. I was struck by the affection in them and barely was able to stutter a "M-Me too." I cleared my throat and tried again: "I love you too, Beomgyu." A smile spread on both our faces and slowly his eyes wandered from mine to my lips. I closed my eyes as he leaned in closer and the moment our lips connected, my feet decided to give up their purpose and I leant on him fully, dedicating myself to him. I melted in his hands, in his kiss as he gently held me. As he pulled away, a loving smile was on his face. "Good night, princess", he whispered and gave me one last peck before we went to sleep for real. As I changed into my pyjamas, I found a keychain in my pocket. I don't know when he had sneaked it in there, but it probably was when he kissed me a bit earlier. I smiled as I inspected the little teddy bear, holding a heart. And that night, I dreamed of chestnuts, lights, teddy bears on keychains and that human one called Beomgyu that was my boyfriend.
