SPENCER'S POV
I walk upstairs to find Olivia tucking our little guy in bed. It still feels so weird that Jace is going to be here full-time now. Full disclosure, I wasn't really too sure of this decision, but Liv has always been confident. This is why I need her — why we need each other. She bends down to kiss his head, and I stare in awe at her natural ability to care for him. She was meant to be a mom, and this entire situation with Julia and Jace definitely proves that.
I take a look around at what used to be one of our guest rooms. Liv wasted no time trying to turn this into Jace's home. The walls are now red, with tons of race cars all over the wall. Paw patrol bedding covers the bed, and more Roblox action figures than I knew even existed are neatly placed in the toy box in the corner of his room. When Jace saw the finished product, he cried. He ran into Liv's arms and began hysterically sobbing. The kid really is incredible, and every day that I come home to him and Liv is magical.
Olivia turns around, finally aware of my presence. Her soft smile makes my heart skip a beat. Even after all this time, she still has an earth-shattering effect on me.
"Hi, baby." She whispers. "How was your dinner date with your mom?"
Liv doesn't release her hold on Jace. This has been routine most nights this past week. I usually have to pry her away from him or convince her that he doesn't need to sleep in our bed.
"It was good, babe. Granted, she spent a lot of time talking about you and Jace. I told you that you guys should've come." I laugh a little.
Liv insisted that my mom and I take some one-on-one time. However, Liv isn't the only woman in the house completely obsessed with the little four-year-old who is currently sound asleep. In fact, my entire household, including the dog, is completely obsessed with Mr. Jace.
I walk over to the bed, climbing in to cuddle up with Liv and Jace. "The paperwork came today to terminate Julia's parental rights," I mention as I run my hand up and down Liv's arm.
"Oh?" She responds. "That was fast."
"I agree, especially because I haven't called our lawyer yet." I reluctantly admit.
Liv turns around to face me, her expression causing my heart to race. I know I should've told her before now, but I also didn't expect Julia to move this quickly.
"What do you mean you haven't called the lawyer, Spence? What possible reason could you have not to make that call?" She huffs with disappointment coursing through her eyes.
"I just wanted to give us all a moment. A lot has happened in such a short time period." I admit, honestly.
The tension in the room thickens, choking me as I scramble to find any words to diffuse this fire before it even has a chance to begin. Liv's hand brushes against mine, and I'm immediately met with an all too familiar buzz of energy. A jolt that never seems to pass no matter how many times her skin touches mine.
"I know you're scared she'll change her mind, Spencer. And, if for some reason she proves me absolutely wrong and does, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. For now, do you trust me?" Her eyes desperately search mine for reassurance.
"With my life," I respond without hesitation.
Her smile beams at me. Her infectious grin, the way her eyes light up with happiness every time she smiles is truly the most mesmerizing thing about her. I'll spend every moment of every day working to make sure that precious smile never leaves her face.
She grabs hold of my hand, pulling my arm across her and Jace. "This is our new life, Spence. This is our family, and Julia initiating the legal process only reaffirms that."
