Worth A Try

I hear Liv and Simone's giggles before I see them walking through the garage door. Jace is fast asleep in Olivia's arms, and Simone comfortably holds Bentley. When Liv told me Simone wanted to come into town a few days early for the game to catch up, I thought it was a great idea. Liv has been having a little trouble making friends and some girl time seems like exactly what she needed.

"Hi baby," she walks over, greeting me with a peck on the cheek.

"I got him," I take Jace from her rubbing his back as he stirs in my arms. I lay him down on the couch, tucking him under the weighted blanket. Liv has him so spoiled with snuggles that I had to buy this thing to trick him into thinking someone is near while he's sleeping.

"What'd you ladies get into today? Nothing I'll have to read about on TMZ, I hope." Liv playfully rolls her eyes at me.

"HA." Simone snorts. "Funny, although it seems like I should probably be the one following TMZ to keep up with you two."

I offer Liv a questioning look, and she shrugs before lifting her hand to cover her face. I see the ring, her ring. There's no way I could miss it. I spent countless hours designing with my jeweler starting the moment Liv agreed to give us another shot. Not to mention, it's one of the best parts of my day to see it on her finger. She's really my fiancé. It's been a long time coming!

"I, too, was speechless when I saw the ring today," Simone interjects.

For a moment, I forgot that Liv and I were caught red-handed. We've been in this engagement bubble for the past few weeks, and as excited as I am for everyone to know, I could also stay in this bubble forever.

"Speechless in a good way?" I inquire.

"Duh, Spencer! He may be older, but he definitely isn't any wiser— just like your crazy brother." She looks to Liv.

I freeze at the mention of Jordan. When Liv and I first broke up, I kept my distance out of respect. After we got back together, he said he was happy for us, but things have been off. I don't push it. I don't need that stress. "How... how is J?"

"Why don't you call and ask him." Simone can't help the sarcasm in her voice.

I know her and Liv aren't happy with how things are currently, but they work. Women have this crazy desire to fix everything, but me and J don't need to be fixed. We coexist just fine. There's no disrespect or ill-will.

"Yea, Simone. I'll get right on that. What are ya'll feeling for dinner? There's this dope sandwich shop around the corner." I quickly try to deflect. Liv rolls her eyes, but she can't help the uptick of her lips. For one, Liv and I just went there two days ago, but I'd go every day if I could. Second, I know better. The longer we stay standing in this kitchen, the more likely I am to endure the tag team from hell, and they got another thing coming if they think I'm going down without a fight.

"I'm here for two more days, Spencer. We'll talk about this eventually." Simone's voice is stern, and her glare is equally as intense.

"Right. So, sandwiches?" I opt to ignore her threat, for lack of a better word. I'm also starving and don't have the energy to play with these two.

"I'm actually exhausted, so I want to get in a nap. Maybe you guys could bring me one back?" Simone yawns.

"You know, that's actually not a bad idea. Jace is still sleeping, and you could just bring it back." Liv walks over, wrapping her arms around my waist and snuggling her head in my neck.

"Cool. We can go grab the sandwiches, and by the time we get back, everyone should be refreshed." I pull Liv closer to me, hoping she's buying what I'm selling.
