Olivia's POV
I'm on the edge of my seat as the clock winds down. Spencer has looked incredible in his first game back, but the Bears are still down by 3 with two minutes left, and the Falcons have the ball. I can only imagine how anxious Spencer is right now. Simone is all smiles beside me as her man drives his team down the field, trying to secure a victory.
"COME ON, MR. SPENCER!" Jace yells. "I don't see him, mommy Liv. How can he catch the ball if he's not out there?" The passion in his voice brings a smile to my face.
"He plays on the offense, kiddo. Right now, defense is on the field, and we need them to get a stop so that Spencer can come back on the field."
"Well, who is defense? Tell him to do something." Jace throws his hands up, and Simone spits out the sip of water she just took before falling into a fit of laughter. Jace looks at her, genuinely confused, which causes me to laugh.
"I agree, kid. Defense should do something." I'll leave it to Spencer to break down the game with him.
We all go silent as we watch Jordan drop back to pass. He's going deep, and he has a man wide open. I gulp as the ball travels through the air, each second getting closer to shattering the Bear's undefeated season.
"And that pass is intercepted at the Chicago 15." They announce over the loudspeaker.
The noise in the stadium is deafening. Every fan is now on their feet cheering on the offense as they take the field. I catch a glimpse of my brother on the sideline throwing his helmet. I quickly glance at Simone, mouthing "sorry," to which she just shrugs her shoulders. It wasn't a bad pass; the corner just made an unbelievable break on the ball. That won't matter to Jordan, though. If they don't win this game, all he'll see is that he threw the pass that gave the game away.
Spencer has taken limited snaps today since it's his first game back, but incredible things have happened every time he steps on the field. I can't understand why they have him on the bench with a chance to win the game. The offense makes its way into Falcons territory in no time, and soon enough, they're in comfortable field goal range. It's fourth down, and I prepare for the field goal unit to come out to tie up the game. In a surprising move, the Bears keep the offense out on the field. Finally, I see #11, and my heart skips a beat.
"He's out there!" Jace frantically tugs at my arm.
The moment the ball is snapped, me and anybody who's ever watched this team know exactly where this ball is going. The pass is high and to the outside, where only Spencer can get it. He goes up for the pass, and I squeeze Jace's hand.
"TOUCHDOWN, SPENCER JAMES."
I pick Jace up, swinging him in my arms as the crowd erupts. I know I should be torn because Spencer's win came at Jordan's expense, but I am unashamedly Team James!
I put Jace down, and he immediately turns around to the obnoxious Atlanta fan behind us. "My daddy just kicked your team's butt!" He sticks his tongue out at the man who was incessantly yelling for the past three hours. My jaw immediately drops to the ground. I know I should say something to him, but this is the first time he's ever called Spencer daddy. Not to mention, that guy was a pain in the ass the entire game.
The stands are clearing out, and most of the players have left the field except for Spencer and Jordan, who are at midfield engaging in what looks like a peaceful conversation. Part of me wants to rush down there before either of them does something that will be played on a loop on Sports Center. Simone must be thinking the same thing because her steps quicken. Just as we make it down to the field, we see them hugging. I'm not sure what was said or by whom, but I'm happy with the outcome.
