"You look so beautiful!" Aya gasped as Elvira walked out of her bedroom, in the dress her father gave her when he visited. "Really? I feel like I'll stand out too much," Elvira heard Jayce's words in the back of her head, telling her not to draw attention to herself because of her difference.
"Every guy there is gonna look at you! You look like a snack!" Aya kept hyping her up, and it was working. Sorta. Elvira still felt like she would stand out too much, but she also felt confident. She loved her homeland, and she wanted to honor it and proudly wear her culture like a badge of honor.
"I wish I had a dress as cute as yours," Aya pouted as she helped Elvira apply the gold liner to her eye. "Your dress looks good on you, don't say stuff like that," Elvira said as she tried not to open her eye, not wanting to get the liner in her eye.
"Are you ready to go?" Aya asked as she stepped back and admired her work. She had helped Elvira with her hair and makeup, and Elvira helped Aya.
Viktor and Jayce's presentation went well, and they were now heading over to the academy, to attend the celebration that was in honor of hextech. "Not really, but I don't have a choice," she sighed as she put on her heels, and made her way outside. She had both been excited about and dreaded today, as she didn't like huge crowds of people. It reminded her too much of the refugee camps.
"I'll look out for you, don't worry," Aya smiled before they started walking. "So do you think there will be any hot guys there?" Aya wiggled her eyebrows at Elvira. She had been going on and on about trying to find someone for Elvira, who had strictly told her that she was not interested in a relationship, and especially not interested in chasing one.
"Aya, I don't need a hot guy," she groaned. "A hot girl?" "No." "You're no fun, I wanna go on double dates!" Aya cried and Elvira just laughed. "Take Jayce and counselor Medarda then, he's got a fat crush on her, it's hilarious," Elvira chuckled and Aya looked at her shocked. "Really?" she asked and Elvira nodded.
"Just ask Viktor. He and I have to sit and watch Jayce be stupid every time Medarda is around, it's exhausting but funny," she laughed as she imagined the scene in her head. "I can actually imagine it, they would be a cute couple," Aya smiled at the thought. She had always loved watching other people find their match.
"What about Viktor, does he have a crush?" Aya asked. "Yeah, a crush on his science books. The poor boy never leaves his lab, he can't have a crush when he never sees other people," Elvira chuckled but soon stopped walking as she saw the academy in front of them. "It's gonna be ok," Aya reassured her before grabbing her arm.
They walked inside together, Elvira feeling her heartrate quicken at the sight of all the people walking towards the hall. Aya grabbed her hand reassuringly, and they walked into the big hall together. Neither Elvira nor Aya had been to this part of the academy before, and they were both shocked at the luxury of the room. The windows were framed in gold, there were golden chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, golden candelabras were placed on the many tables, and there were servers walking around with trays filled with wine glasses, making sure everyone had something to sip on at all times.
"Hello," someone purred from behind them, and they both turned to be faced with Estrid, looking Aya up and down before grinning. "I heard they were serving good food today, but it seems you brought the feast right here," Estrid smirked at Elvira, making Aya blush at the compliment. "Cute," Elvira smiled at the two lovestruck girls, before looking around the room to see if she found anyone she knew.
"While you two shamelessly flirting, I'll go talk to people," Elvira excused herself as she made her way over to Caitlyn, who she had just spotted over by a table filled with snacks. "You look lovely today," she complimented her right as Caitlyn had stuffed her face with a cupcake. "Thank you," she said after she had swallowed the cake.
"So I'm not familiar with piltovan party etiquette, it's very different from in Ionia," Elvira awkwardly asked the 16 year old for advice. "Just smile, talk to people, and clap when everyone else is clapping," she simply said, and Elvira chuckled slightly. "Sounds easy enough."
"I really like your dress, is it ionian?" Caitlyn complimented as they made their way away from the snack table. "It is," Elvira smiled. "My grandmother made this for me," she ran her hand softly over the fabric of her dress, almost feeling all the love and hard work her grandmother had put into this gift. "It's truly a work of art," Caitlyn studied the dress, impressed by the golden edges and the fine seams.
"A work of art indeed," someone spoke from behind Elvira, and she turned to see Viktor. He was wearing dark formal attire, and he looked slightly uncomfortable. "Oh, hi Viktor, how are you doing?" she asked as she felt pity for the poor man. "Not dead yet," he said sarcastically, trying to make light of a stupid situation. "You look good, I like that color on you," he complimented her dress, and she felt her face go slightly warm. "Oh, thank you."
"Do you know where Jayce is? I haven't seen him yet," Elvira looked around the room, to distract from the growing blush on her face. "He's making a fool of himself in front of counselor Medarda again. I would save him from embarrassing himself completely, but I must admit it is amusing to watch," he nodded towards where Elvira saw Jayce standing in front of Medarda, aggressively rubbing his neck and sweating trying to make small talk with her.
"Poor boy," Elvira laughed at the scene. "Are you nervous about how people will react to hextech?" she asked him as he looked around the room, visibly stressed. "Not really, whether they accept it or not, is not my problem," he shrugged.
"Excuse me, could I borrow miss Talis for a few moments?" Mel Medarda asked, and Elvira smiled at Viktor before nodding. "I'll find you," she said to him before she walked off with Medarda.
"You spend a lot of time with the two geniuses," she stated as they had walked off to a more secluded area, though still filled with people. "I do," Elvira answered, not sure which direction this conversation was going. "I am constantly looking for new things to invest my money in, and I believe you and your lab partner are working on something quite extraordinary," she continued.
"We are, but it's nowhere near finished," Elvira said, trying not to get her hopes up. "I would like to have a look at your work," Medarda said, and Elvira felt her heart skip a beat. If she were to sponsor their work, they would be done so much quicker than if she were to not sponsor it.
"Aya and I would love for you to look at it, you can stop by at any time," Elvira tried to hide her excitement, but failed miserably which caused Medarda to smile. "Wonderful," she hummed before walking over to a server, grabbing two glasses of wine, and handing one to Elvira. "To bright futures," she toasted. "To bright futures."
