"Boys," Elvira made her presence known as she walked back over to where Viktor was, now accompanied by Jayce. "Elvira, are you enjoying the party?" Jayce smiled as he saw Elvira. "Big crowds are not my really my thing," Elvira shrugged before taking a sip of the wine. "But the wine's good," she smirked.
"Do you have any tips for me before I go get ready for my speech?" he asked and Elvira looked over to Viktor before answering. Viktor looked just as uncomfortable as he always did, but something was different about his aura. She looked back over to Jayce before smirking at him. "Make sure your fly is up," she said, chuckling as he looked down checking that his pants were ok and that his fly was up, which it was. "I'm only joking. You'll do great," she patted him on the shoulder.
"Thanks for that, as if I wasn't nervous enough before," Jayce tried to sound angry, but Elvira knew very well that he could never be angry at her. Not real angry at least.
"Good luck," Viktor said as Jayce had turned to walk over to the stage. "Thank you," he smiled back at his lab partner. "You doing ok? You seem off," Elvira asked Viktor, adding a small chuckle at the end to make it seem less serious. "Why are you asking?" Viktor said almost aggressively. "I'm only concerned, sorry if I overstepped a boundary," she rolled her eyes at his behavior.
"I'm sorry, I haven't slept well for the last days," he admitted after a few seconds of silence. "May I ask why?" "Just some hextech stuff, Jayce and I are stuck on what to do, and we've been staying up late," he explained. "Maybe a fresh mind could help? I am free tomorrow, I could come by?" Elvira offered her help. "It's worth a try," Viktor simply said as he leaned against the wall.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I welcome you tonight to celebrate a new big step for Piltover!" Medarda spoke into the microphone on the stage. The spotlight shone on her dark skin, causing the golden specks on her cheek to glow in contrast, making her look like a Shuriman goddess. "Please welcome Jayce Talis," the crowd cheered, and all the noise made Elvira feel dizzy.
"Elvira! A wagon of soldiers are coming in, go help the nurses lead them to their beds," Krekel said to Elvira as she rushed through her medic tent to get the beds ready for the many soldiers who were getting closer by the second. "Ok," Elvira responded and quickly got to work.
She knew what to do, as she had done this many times. Get the beds out, get the bowls of water, the towels, and the herbs, and then go help the nurses and the acolytes bring the soldiers inside.
She had done this more times than she could count on her hands, but the smell of blood and sweat never got any easier to handle. The stress she felt as the tent filled up with wounded warriors and the healers who were walking in and out, back and forth and all over the place. She used to hate the stress, but she eventually got numb to it. And the waiting, crying, and grunting.
Elvira almost felt like she was back in the camp in Navori at the sound of the cheering crowds, and her mind forced her to remember the horrible things she had witnessed as a child. "He looked like a lost puppy," Viktors voice snapped her back to reality, and she noticed Jayce had stepped on stage. She didn't dare turn her eyes away, scared the crowd was gonna drag her back to her horrid past.
"Piltover is a city of progress, and we will always look for the next big thing. And today, I am proud to show you exactly what that is," Jayce spoke with confidence and ambition. "When I was younger, my mother and I almost died when we got lost in a snowstorm. But a stranger saved our lives with magic," he explained, and the whole crowd cringed at the word.
"We were teleported to warmed land, and then he left. But he gave me an idea. An idea that I have been researching and working on since that very day, and that I now am here to present to you." The crowd looked at one another, trying to figure out if they should be scared it excited.
