"What now?" Ash asked Elvira and Viktor who were both confused at his question. "Are you two gonna be best friends again, or are you gonna fight over some shit like everyone else does here?" he asked again, making his question clear. "I guess we're..." Elvira started but was interrupted by a loud explosion sound in the distance.
"What the hell?" Ash said as he was already on his way out to see what it was and where it came from. "Come on," Elvira said to Viktor before she put on her cloak and mask and followed Ash. The people who were walking in the streets, quickly made their way into their homes, to hide from the fumes.
Explosions like these were quite common in Zaun, and they usually meant that the streets would fill with toxic fumes for a little while, and then it would pass. But it also meant that the people who were at the place the explosion went off, were not so lucky. And Elvira always went there to help out.
Ash pulled his gas mask over his head, while Elvira used her magic to filter the air around her head. They quickly made their way over to where the sound came from, which was now the source of screams. "Holy fuck, what happened?" Elvira asked Ash as she caught up to where he was standing at the edge, looking down into the sumps of Zaun, where the explosions came from.
"It looks like an old factory exploded," he explained as Elvira looked over the railings too. "We need to help." Elvira nodded, agreeing with Ash. "We need our equipment, and we need help. Will you go fetch the others?" Elvira asked, and Ash nodded before sprinting off to their lab, to get the workers ready to go in.
"Is it bad?" Viktor asked while walking over. He had followed after them both but had kept his distance until Ash and Elvira had assessed the situation, not wanting to be in their way. "It looks bad. One of the factories must have exploded, and people are screaming down there," Elvira explained, trying to keep her cool.
"What do you need me to do?" Viktor asked. "Huh?"
"I won't sit by and watch people die, so what do you need me to do to help?" he asked again. "Oh, um. How can you help?" she asked. "I still am the greatest inventor and scientist in both Piltover and Zaun, you know," he said, and Elvira could hear his smirk through the mask. "I don't like this new cockyness you've gotten," Elvira huffed, and Viktor chuckled. "Good."
"Do you know where my laboratory is?" Elvira asked while walking away from the ledge. "I do not." "Ok, I will send Ash here to get you when I've gotten the situation situated. I need to figure out how to make room for all the workers in my little med ward," Elvira stressed.
"No need. I have a huge laboratory underneath my home. Bring them there, and we'll help them together. Like we used to in Piltover. Ok?" he said, and Elvira felt herself get emotional at his words. "Together," she smiled underneath her mask, but he hoped he could hear her happiness in her voice.
They parted ways, and Elvira went on her way to her lab, to meet Ash and the others there. They all got suited up and started making their way down to the sump levels, all scared of what was awaiting them.
"I always forget how bad it smells down here," Elvira complained while they all stood cramped together in the small elevator, which was taking them all the way down to the factory's level. "Yeah, makes the entresol levels feel like a flower field," Ash muttered from behind her.
The elevator clanked as it sunk deeper and deeper, the air getting darker and moister. And the screaming from the factory workers had long since stopped, but they now heard the sounds of snarling and growling, and it sounded almost animalistic.
"This is too quiet, I preferred the screaming if I'm being honest," Ash said as he gripped his blades in his hands, preparing for what awaited them as the doors of the elevator slowly opened. The elevator doors made a loud stretching sound as they opened, but after they all walked out of the elevator and the doors closed again, it went silent.
