The metal arm attached to his back reached behind his head and undid the buckles holding his mask in place. Once his mask fell too, Elvira choked on her own breath.
"Viktor."
Elvira looked at Viktor in disbelief, as he paced back and forth in his laboratory. "What the fuck?" she managed to say, which caused him to stop his pacing and turn to look at her. "What the fuck? You think you have any right to be that shocked?" he asked her.
"I knew you were depressed after the loss of your magic, but I never would have guessed that you would just leave! Leave me! And all you left me was a god damn note!" he said, his voice turning into a yell. The pain in his voice was evident.
"I'm sorry, I..." "I don't wanna hear your apology. Jayce and I went down here so many times to look for you, but you were nowhere to be found!" Viktor yelled. "Have you any idea how much pain and distress you've caused everyone? Jayce? Aya? Your father? ME!"
Elvira lifted her hand and used her magic to silence Viktor. He tried to open his mouth to speak, but it was forced shut. "Now you listen to me!" she ordered, and he stopped moving his body and looked at her waiting for her to speak.
"When I lost my magic, it felt like I lost my life. I didn't have any joy left, except the small joy I felt when I was in the lab. However, my ideas kept getting pissed on, just because I had Zaun in mind while making them, and not Piltover. And do you know how it feels when the only pride and joy you have left get's pissed on?"
"Do you know how it feels to watch you get sick, and dying when I knew that I could have helped you if I had my magic? You know I used my magic to soothe your discomfort before I went to Ionia? That's probably why you got so much worse so fast! And when I heard that the council was looking for those responsible for creating my heart, I knew that it was the only thing left I could do for you. For all of you," she explained before taking a break to catch her breath.
"It made me extremely sad to know I had to leave, and that I most likely would never get to see any of you again. But it also made me happy, because I knew I helped you all so, so much by taking the blame and leaving Piltover. Even though you would never agree to it."
She removed her magical hold on Viktor's mouth, and he opened his mouth and adjusted his jaw a little before he let out a sigh. "Ash helped me get settled here, and I stayed at his place a little before I got my own place. I started helping people here instead, with what I knew best. Science, medicine, and inventions."
"Your magic. It's back," Viktor said, much calmer than before.
"You probably remember Jinx stealing multiple hextech gemstones two years ago? One was for me. She had one in her possession when she was hanging out at my lab once after she had stolen it during the progress days. I felt it react with my body, and I felt my magic in my veins and chest again, so I got hope. Hope that the hextech gem would provide me with an endless source for my magic to draw from."
"You probably remember that it used to draw from my heart, but this was even stronger and better. I sent her to retrieve me one as well, and I met with Singed," Elvira explained, and Viktors eye flinched a little at the mention of Singed.
"We worked together on a solution, and opened up my chest to insert the hexgem into my chest," she explained, hovering her hand over her chest, causing the hexgem to glow a bright blue through her skin and clothing.
"Your hair?" he asked. "The procedure with Singed was so painful and traumatizing that my hair turned white. I was awake during the entire thing after all. I helped out," she said, and Viktor's jaw dropped. "You did open heart surgery awake? On yourself?" he asked, and she nodded. "I had to have smelling salts at my side for when I fainted from the pain."
Viktor slipped his gloves off and rubbed his face while he started pacing again. Elvira noticed his left hand was, wrong. It was a purplish-gray and looked almost wooden. Viktor noticed her staring at it, and let out yet another sigh. "A lot happened since you left," he said before he took off the blue cloak he was wearing over his shoulders and sat down on the sofa he had in his lab.
He waited for Elvira to sit down as well before he started explaining. "As I told you, Jayce and I looked for you every day for the first month. Then he started looking less often before he stopped completely after 4 months. I, however, still went down her every day for the first 3 months, then I went once a week for another year."
"But Jayce and I started arguing a lot more, and I think the loss of you drove him to a breaking point. He put all his time into his inventions, and he got angry. He let his emotions drive him instead of his logic, and it drove us apart."
"We had a disagreement on something, and he thought my idea was so inhumane and wrong that he told the academy and the council, and they all kicked me out of the academy." Elvira was listening so hard that she almost heard every word twice. Once from Viktor's lips, then once more when she repeated them in her head.
"I wanted to rid humans of their faulty parts. Make humans stronger. More efficient. But he disagreed. So I went back here. Back home," Viktor said, looking at his hand.
"After you left, I tried fixing myself. I also spoke with Singed, and he gave me shimmer," he explained, and Elvira felt a lump form in her throat. She knew damn well what shimmer could do to a person. She had seen it way too many times in her lab.
"The hexcore had been reacting to my blood, so I went further and tried to see if it could heal my body. Its magic felt similar to yours but different at the same time. It was colder. But my body couldn't take the transformation, so I had to use shimmer. And that's how I got this," he said as he lifted his left hand, pulling the sleeve down a little.
"My left leg is also like that. It's funny, one of the first things I did after my leg healed, was to run," he smiled a little at the memory. "It felt like I was the best version of myself for a while. But when I got back here, I realized that I was wrong. I could still improve. I fell into a deep depression after I was kicked out of the academy, and I didn't know what I was gonna do with my life. I had let emotions control me and my decisions for too long. So I decided to improve," he said before he looked deep into Elvira's eyes.
She noticed the change in Viktor's face. They were faint, and she hadn't noticed them before. His eyes, which used to be a pure golden color, now had specs of purple in them. His skin looked more lifelike than before, but it also looked off.
"Improve?" Elvira asked, a little confused. "My left arm and leg are completely robotic. The skin around is the only organic thing left. And other parts of my body are also improved. The glorious evolution," he proudly explained. "My hearing and vision are very much improved. That's how I was able to catch you sneaking around in my lab," he smirked at her.
Elvira felt her face heat up, reality sinking in that she was with Viktor again. She remembered parts of the vision she had in Ionia years ago, but time had made her forget a lot of it. Did she see Viktor in her future?
She cleared her throat before speaking, clearing her mind of impure and unnecessary thoughts. "So the cult that's following you like you're their god?" Elvira asked. Viktor only snorted at the mention of the church of the glorious evolved. "I have no business with them. I think it's pretty stupid to believe in things you can't prove," he said. "But they believe in you?" Elvira asked confused.
"No, they believe in the gray lady. I am just a person they follow like dogs because I have achieved what they are failing at," he explained.
"Good to know," Elvira said while looking around the lab, taking everything in. "I still have it, you know," Viktor said, gaining her attention again. "Have what?" Viktor stood up and walked over to his desk. He opened a secret compartment under the desk and pulled out a piece of paper. "Your letter," he held it up to show her.
"You know, the letter where you said you loved me," he smirked at her.
