Weeks passed and the news about Elvira's visit to Piltover spread through Zaun like wildfire. Ekko had been training his firelights, Ash had been helping Elvira with the people who had been hurt by the enforcers, who were now walking through the streets, hitting or shooting innocent people, just for fun.
Jinx had been staying close to Elvira a lot more than usual too, as she was getting scared. She had mostly been working on weapons and bombs, which Ash had promised her she would be able to use when the time came.
Elvira still did not like the idea of storming Piltover, but she had realized that there was no other choice. So she had also spent time working on herself.
She and Viktor had spent the days in their labs, working together on their augments, making them both much stronger and more suited for the coming battle.
"Viktor?" Elvira asked while he was carefully working on her arm, installing a device that would focus her magic into a laser beam, much like the one he has on his shoulder. "Hmm?" he hummed before carefully finishing up and placing his tool down.
"Do you think we'll survive this?"
Viktor looked up at her, shocked at her words. He had never thought about that. They were both strong, much stronger than the average human, but they were also still mortal.
"I hope so," he said as he settled on an answer. "Why are you thinking about that right now?" he then asked. Elvira looked down at her hand, flexing her fingers while thinking.
"It's just that I feel like I haven't lived a life with meaning, you know? I know I do a lot of good, and I know that I've experienced a lot, but I still don't feel...happy, you know?" she said as she still looked at her arm.
Viktor hummed before he pulled his chair slightly away, as he was sitting very close to Elvira. "I get what you mean," he then said. "I also feel like that often. But it doesn't matter in the end, does it? If you're happy or not?"
"What do you mean?" Elvira asked. "Well, everything good comes to an end. Family, success, joy, love, money, it all ends at some point. So what's the point in feeling that happiness when you know it's not gonna last forever? It's only gonna make the end hurt even more."
"That's the most stupid and idiotic thing I have ever heard coming from your mouth, Viktor," Elvira said rather harshly. "The happy moments are what makes life tolerable. And even after you lose the happiness, at least you get to think back on it. I've lost Jayce, but I still think back on the time when he acted like my cousin and not like I was a criminal, and it makes the loss feel a little less overwhelming."
"That's stupid," Viktor rolled his eyes. "Aya lost her girlfriend after being with her for a long time, and it hurt her, but at least she gets to think back on the memories they had together. She knows what it was like to be with that specific person. And it is better to love someone and then lose them than to never have loved them at all," Elvira finished before she grabbed the tiny tool on the table, so she could close up her hand.
"Hmm," Viktor hummed, and when Elvira looked up to see what he was humming about, he rolled his chair forward, grabbed onto her chin, and kissed her. Elvira froze at first, but quickly melted into the kiss, feeling like she had been thirty for a whole day, and this was her first sip of cold and fresh water.
The kiss didn't last very long, and soon enough Viktor pulled away from it, leaving Elvira in a shocked state. She just looked at him questioningly for a few seconds, and when he noticed, he just shrugged his shoulders.
"I just wanted to see what it would be like to kiss you," he said before he turned his attention back to the tools on the table, and back to Elvira's arm, working on closing up the part they had been working on.
When Elvira still didn't say anything, he kept talking. "I've wanted to kiss you for many years now, and if I were to die in this coming battle, at least I want to know what it feels like," Viktor said while fastening a small screw on her forearm.
"Huh?" was all she was able to say, as she still felt the warmth and wetness from his lips on her own. "Is something wrong?" he asked her, looking straight into her eyes for the first time since they kissed. "No, I just... It was... so sudden," she stuttered, causing Viktor to chuckle a little at her sudden change in behavior. She was flustered.
"I'm sorry, should I not have kissed you?" he asked while raising an eyebrow at her. "According to the letter you left me, I assumed you had thought about that too." Elvira looked down to hide the blush on her face, but she realized that what he was saying was true.
They could both die in this battle, so there was no point in leaving any stone unturned, so she decided to not suppress her feelings anymore. "It's true," she simply said.
"Sorry?" he asked, not having heard her properly, as she was mumbling. "It's true," she said again, much clearer. She looked up at looked Viktor in his eyes, while taking a deep breath.
"I did love you very much. I just never thought you'd feel the same, seeing as you were very devoted in your research, and I just assumed you wouldn't care for such stupid things as love. And when I saw you again in Zaun, after all those years, I felt all those emotions surface again, but you were talking about how useless emotions were, and that they were only weakening you, so I decided once again, that you did not care for love," Elvira explained.
"And let me tell you when I figured out you were dying, and that there was nothing I could do to help you, I wanted to die myself. I could not live to watch you die slowly, while I survived. That's the main reason I took the blame and left Piltover. It was the last thing I could do for you."
Viktor just leaned back in his seat and listened to her.
"I have been fighting the urge to confess to you ever since the night of the ball, but I just never did. I didn't wanna make things awkward between us, and I didn't wanna get in the way of hextech."
The room was silent for a little moment, as Viktor was repeating her words in his mind, making sure he understood what she was saying. He started laughing, but there was sadness in his laugh. "Viktor?" she asked concerned, as he looked like he wanted to cry.
"I can't fucking believe it," he said as he stood up, and started pacing the room. "I mean I read your letter, but I just thought you meant that you loved me the same way you loved Jayce, you know? Like family," he said as he rubbed his face.
"You're telling me I spent all those days in the lab with you, thinking about you, admiring you, longing for you, lusting for you, and all those moments where I was so frustrated, thinking you didn't and would never like me back, and you did?" he asked, more to himself than to Elvira.
"I could have had you all this time? Fuck! I mean I took this chance, maybe hoping to persuade you, or make you fall for me, but fucking hell," he ranted as he paced the floor.
Elvira got up from her seat as well, worried about his state, as he was gripping the roots of his hair, seeming angry?
"Viktor, look at me!" she said as she grabbed his shoulders, forcing him to stop and look at her. "Stop freaking out, I am just as frustrated as you are, but there's nothing either of us can do about the past now anyway, so why beat yourself up so much because of it?" she asked him.
He didn't say anything, he just looked at her. "Fuck it," he said before grabbing onto her again, carefully pushing her against the wall, lips crashing onto her as he kissed her again, with even more passion and lust than before.
Elvira grabbed onto the back of his neck for support, as she run her other hand up through his hair, earning herself a deep purr from him. They moved their lips in an excited rhythm, moving in sync with each other as if they both had been starving for this. And to be honest, you both had been starving for this.
Viktor roamed his hands down the side of her waist, pulling off his gloves before snaking his bare hands under her shirt, dragging his fingers softly across the bare skin of her waist and lower back, and up her back, sending shivers down her spine.
"I want you so bad, you have no idea," he breathed between kisses. Elvira's body instantly responded to his words, letting both him and her know that she wanted him too.
"Then take me," she whispered as her lips ghosted his. He picked her up with ease, carried her into his bedroom, and finally claimed her after so many years of patiently waiting.
