Chapter 46 Breaking Point

After John and Lemar left it was just the three of us alone in the house to clean up the mess. Sam suddenly got a call on his phone. He answered it, seeing that it was Sarah. Assuming that it was more talk about financials, I turned to Bucky.

"What are we going to do now?" I asked.

"I don't know."

"She said what!?" Sam shouted. "All right, all right, hold on."

"What is it? Is everything good?"

"No. Karli just threatened my sister and nephews. Sarah, pack an overnight bag and take the boys. Go somewhere safe and only pay with cash, ok? Tell me when you arrive. Look, I love you. I'll never let anything happen to you and the boys. Ok. Bye."

Oh no she didn't. 

Sam hung up the phone and started pacing around the room with his hands on his face. I got up and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Come on. Let's stop this mess once and for all."

"What are you planning?" Sam asked me. 

"If she is going to get personal, then we are going to have to go along with her demands until we find a weak point to exploit."

"Sarah gave me coordinates. Karli said she wants me to meet her there by myself."

"Going after the one guy without any powers? I see how it is. Bucky and I will stick close to you then. If she wants to play it this way, I'm not risking losing you too."

"Thank you."

"Of course...Hey, why don't you call your eye in the sky to help us keep an eye on things."

"Really?"

"Yeah. We're going to need all the help we can get. That is what you said, right?"

We all suited up and went to the location Karli had sent Sam. She said met her at the rooftop above the north plaza, so that was where we were heading. We all rushed into the building where Karli told Sam to meet her. Sam rushed in screaming Karli's name. It was one thing to mess with us, but as soon as you bring others into it the mess it always gets messier. She leaned over the side railing and saw that me and Bucky were standing with him. We ran up the stairs to meet her. Sam walked ahead to confront her while Bucky and I stood off to the side, trying to appease her demands.

"You called my sister? That's how we're going to play this?" Sam spat.

"I would never hurt her. I wanted you to understand better...I see you didn't come alone."

"You have to end this now."

"I don't wanna hurt you. You're just a tool in the regimes I want to destroy. You're not hiding behind a shield. If I were to kill you it would be meaningless."

I had to bite my tongue, I was so furious at the last sentence that I wanted to go over there and make her apologize but I had to hold back.

"I was going to ask you to join me, even you too Elara. Do the world a favor and let me go."

"Hey Sam, new Cap is moving. Looks like he's found them, or maybe they found him." Sharon came through the coms.

"Shit," I whispered. Bucky and I both jumped over the railing. Karli did the same and tackled us both into the wall. Sam jumped down and kicked Karli before she could make a move on us while we were down. We quickly got up.

"I'll send you the location, go!" Sam ordered as he deployed his wings and took off. I nodded as I followed Bucky out of the building. We jumped out of a second-story window and landed feet first on the ground, taking off to pinpointed location. We made it to the building and began to ascend the stairs when a flag smasher emerged from the darkness and tackled Bucky.
