"What? Nothing to say?" Jasmine stepped towards me. "Maybe I was wrong about you."
"Don't. I'm not going to fight you!" I screamed.
"You already have been."
Jasmine was about to charge at me when Sam came out of nowhere and tackled her. Sam stood over her as she quickly recomposed herself. "Bird." She literally spat at him. "I'm going to rip out your feathers, one by one."
"No!" I screamed as she leaped at him. Sam avoided the attack by thrusting out of the way but Jasmine whipped back around and sank her claws into this jetpack. He broke free by kicking her in the elbow.
"I don't want to fight you, Jasmine, but I will protect Elara!" Sam projected. "You loved her!"
"Shut up!" She screamed as she backhanded him in the side. His wings popped out which stopped him from smashing into the wall by penetrating through the concrete.
"Sam! Stop! Please!" I begged.
"I am not letting it come down to you or her!"
"And I'm not risking either of you!"
"This isn't the Jasmine you knew, Elara. This isn't the Jasmine that we knew."
"I don't care!" I collapsed to the ground. I was on my hands and knees. "I don't care." I sobbed. Even Jasmine let down her guard as she focused on me. "For six months, I have cried every single day for you, Jasmine. For six months, I have had nightmares every single night about that day. For six months, I have lived with nothing but regret and failure as I wasn't good enough to save you. That I wasn't good enough for anybody to stay or stick around."
I looked up to meet her eyes. They analyzed me as I lay here weak on the floor. Her mouth was slightly open in shock. Her eyes no longer flickered. Her eyes were just raw emotion.
"Those six months of living alone was my own personal hell," I explained. "And I deserved it. I'm sorry for everything. I'm sorry everything I have done since I found you again led us to this moment." I popped out my left shield and laid it on the ground. I did the same for the right one. I detached the staff and laid it next to them. I slide out my wrist blades and pulled them out of the gauntlets, adding them to the pile.
"Please, just stop the fighting." I pleaded. "But if you must, you can come at me again. I won't fight back."
"Elara! No!" Sam shouted.
"Let me make a decision for fuck's sake!"
"You're going to get yourself hurt or killed!"
Jasmine's eyes had not moved from me, in fact, they haven't even blinked.
"I'm the one you're mad at, and you have every right to be. If this is what it takes to alleviate at least some of the pain, then do what you must. I can't say this enough, and I know you're probably really tired of hearing this, but I am sorry."
Jasmine took a couple of steps towards me. I couldn't tell what she was thinking behind her eyes. As she neared the more visibly angry Sam got.
"I'm not sorry for what I'm about to do." He jetted towards Jasmine.
I feared the worst as I watched Jasmine twist quickly on her heel and swung her arm out. It all happened so fast that Sam couldn't even react in time. The vibranium wings reacted for him just in time to create a protective cocoon around him. She punched him and he went flying back. He tried to get up but one glance from Jasmine told him to stay down.
"Elara. I can't let this happen. I can't just stand by and do nothing!"
"Everything will be alright, Sam. Trust me." I smiled at him.
