Her gaze travelled and rested on a Christmas tree just outside the mansion. It was brightly illuminated by multi-coloured lights, sparkling with life and warmth. To her, however, it represented the pain of loneliness, the feeling of loss that she couldn't quite place her finger on.

Maybe it was wrong for her to hope that it was there. A small part of her had known, hadn't it? Then why did she stumble around in Wedgehurst, hoping for something that wasn't there?

The prophecy.

It was tied to her and her family's roots, and made the prediction of the event that separated her from her family. It was meant to be with her. It had only made one correct prediction, and the rest were simply words that didn't make sense out of context. She had felt a surging glow of power the last time she used it. She was wrong, wasn't she? About it being for her. Maybe the prophecy only showed itself to a person once. Maybe her connection with it was purely accidental...

And then she realised.

The diary.

More than a year ago, she had found the mysterious diary that had sent her forth on the mission. Now that she thought of it, it resembled the prophecy she needed now.

With a sigh, she thought that even if it had been the same book, someone would surely have picked it up and found it. The prophecy wasn't necessary for the completion of her mission, but she felt that it would have given her an advantage, knowing where Rose was and what he would do.

Just then, she heard her phone's familiar ringtone chime in her pocket. With an almost confused expression, she picked it up and examined the caller name.

Ash Ketchum.

She decided to pretend that she was busy by leaving the call, and not pressing the decline call button. If she didn't answer, surely Ash would give up on trying to call her.

The call attempt ended, and she breathed a sigh of relief. Almost immediately after that, however, came Goh's number, to her dismay. She ignored it, but found that her inbox was being flooded with text messages.

A: Do you need any help? We're free to do so, just let us help you!

G: Y/N, we know where Chairman Rose is! Meet us at Cerise Laboratory.

Y/N gritted her teeth in annoyance, partially because they had beaten her to the chase just after she refused their help.

Why are they trying to help me? she thought angrily. Why do they have to involve themselves?

Almost as if they heard her, Ash texted back:

A: We're your friends, Y/N. You really think we would abandon you because you told us to?

She smiled wistfully. How naive they were to think that they could help her, and how stupid she was to think she could do it alone. Her head swirled with thoughts, but eventually, she replied back.

Y/N: Fine. If you insist on helping me, I guess it'd be rude to decline. I'll be there in about a minute.

A: A minute?

'Hatterene, Teleport!' she called out, and within seconds, they had arrived.

'Hi.' she said awkwardly. What else were you supposed to say after you lied to your friends?

Ash walked up to her and smiled.

'Welcome back, Y/N.'
