Chapter Twenty Four: Infiltration

The change was immediate: both of them heightening a considerably high amount, their hair colours changing, expressions maturing...

Not even a full minute later, they appeared in their new forms, although it was obvious that they were not enjoying it.

"Alright, all you need to do now is to put this on." said Y/N, holding out two Macro Cosmos uniforms. "I checked the company, and apparently, they're aware that we're going to sneak in."

"Wait, we're still doing this?" asked Goh, terrified.

Y/N made an impatient noise.

"Yes, we're doing this." she replied haughtily. "Why did you think I actually took the effort to get these uniforms, then? They changed them, you know, so that it would be easier to spot intruders."

"Um... How did you even get them at such short notice?" he questioned incredulously. "They aren't illegal, are they?"

She rolled her eyes.

"Of course she wouldn't." answered Sonia. "The Professor knows what she's doing."

"Don't worry." Y/N assured him. "I have this all planned out. As long as you don't do anything cliché like tripping on wire, it'll all work. Oh, and you'll change back soon, so hurry up and get a move on!"

The two of the them saluted.

"Right!"

They headed toward the direction of Rose Tower. Y/N watched as they went, nodding approvingly.

"Change of plan, Espeon." she said to the Eeveelution at her feet. "Can you watch them and make sure they do it well?"

It nodded, then scampered behind the shadows of Rose Tower.

"Right." sighed Y/N. "Now, my turn."

She flew across the beautiful city lights of Galar, although leaving little time to enjoy the view. Her plan depended on herself if it was going to work, and she certainly intended it to.

"Y/N."

A voice came from behind. The figure was riding on a Noivern, trying to catch up with her. Y/N turned around.

"Gladion." she said coolly. "Been a while."

"Well, technically-"

"Right, I need a favour done." the girl interrupted.

Gladion looked at her, his platinum blonde hair blowing in the wind.

"I'll do it." he replied firmly. "What do you need to get done?"

"Well, Goh and Sonia are infiltrating Rose Tower, so that they can deactivate the power resource. I'm confronting Rose, Espeon's watching Goh and Sonia, and Cinderace will help me battle Rose. Oh, and Ash went over to the dark side."

"Meaning...?"

"He joined Rose." was the only response.

"Oh."

There were moments of awkward silence.

"I thought he was on our side." Gladion said quietly.

"He wasn't. He was never." answered Y/N darkly.

"Anyway, back to that favour." said Gladion quickly, eager to change the subject.

"I need you to battle Ash while I do Rose."

Gladion frowned.

"But... I've seen you battle. We were childhood friends. I've grown up with you, and I've seen you take on more people than I can count, single handedly. Why-"

"You're right." came the reply. "I can. However, this time, I need you to do it."

"Will you tell me why?" he asked.

"Yes." she said silently. "Just not now. I need you to promise me that you'll still do it. Please."

Gladion nodded firmly.

"I'll do whatever you require me to, Y/N."

"Thank you." she said earnestly. "By the way, how did you find me out here at the start?"

"I was thirsty," he reminisced. "So I went to get a drink from the kitchen-"

"Wait, you're staying here in Galar?" she interrupted.

"Yeah. In a hotel nearby. So, anyway, you know how hotels in Galar have windows literally everywhere?"

"I...I guess? My friends have never mentioned that as a highlight of their stays in Galar. It's always the food they like most, for some reason." she said nonchalantly.

"I saw you nearby, flying on your Articuno. I knew that something was wrong, so I just had to follow you on Noivern."

Y/N abruptly looked up, and pointed to a figure in the sky.

"Stay down." she said sharply, pulling his head in that direction.

"Wha-"
