At precisely 6:26 am, Fillius Flitwick –otherwise known as Agent Knight– had assigned Lily her first task, to tap into the security cameras in Hogwarts warehouse two miles from HQ. No previous explanation had been offered to her, but a candy store of equipment was at her disposal.
It had taken Lily precisely 3 hours and 22 minutes to finally produce a picture of the small screen at the other side of the room (which she was stationed in alone). She suspected that Flitwick, or indeed someone else, would be here in a second, and so she took this time to survey the room and the mess she'd made of it. The walls were partially covered in television screens, some of which also displayed the CCTV footage, while the others were painted a deep royal blue. There were wires that she'd ripped from certain devices lying abandoned on desks and the floor, and there was a laptop hanging precariously off the desk furthest away. Lily did not strain herself to fetch it. If it was left with her in this room, Lily couldn't imagine it held much significance. And judging by the rooms she'd had to walk through to arrive here, and the technology she'd seen, they could afford to lose a subpar computer.
"You've made yourself at home, I see?"
Lily's head shot up, "Remus."
Remus Lupin glanced at his watch and then back up at Lily, "pretty fuckin' good in fairness."
"Was I fast?"
Remus look at his watch again and cocked his head to the side.
"I was faster, but security was a joke back then," he chuckled at Lily's scandalized expression, "c'mon, Falcon, we've got a busy day."Lily jolts into action, following him out the door as he doesn't wait.
"I'm going to be guiding you through most of your initial training and then Flitwick will be assisting you towards the end. This is the second-longest trial period in Hogwarts: five days shorter than Slytherin and a week shorter than Gryffindor.""So what's the end goal here?" Lily asked as they passed through halls of technology only possible in sci-fi films and the spy movies she'd always imagined her father worked on.
"We're working towards being the guy in the earpiece, if you will. We want to be the ones controlling the mission from the surveillance van. Of course, everyone in Hogwarts is cleared for active duty but we tend to work best away from the shooting."
Lily gestured to the holster strapped around his shoulders and the other at his best, both laced with blue and silver threads, "but you carry?"
"I'm an Agent, Lily, of course, I fucking carry!"
"Sorry I asked."
"Don't be. It won't be long until you've got one of these," he tapped the pistol at his hip.
"Now, as I was saying: we like to consider ourselves the brains of the operation, so as well as things like CCTV and developing tech, we like to look at intercepting intel, pinning locations, and working with Slytherin to devise a strategy. Without Ravenclaw, this bloody place would fall apart."Lily nodded, doing a fine job of hiding just how impressed and excited she was to begin properly training.
"Right. I was going to show you some of this tech myself but why don't we start here?" Remus pushed open a door to reveal a room full of radios. Radio waves projected onto screens and everyone in the room had a set of headphones either around their necks or on their ears, listening for something.
"This is the intel room. It's not uncommon to see other houses in here too." Lily noticed he talked considerably lower in this room, allowing the agents to do their job.
"See there? That's Peter. I'm not sure if you've met Wormtail but he's a Slytherin. My guess is he's planted a bug somewhere on his last mission and they're trying to pick up on something. There's Alice Fortescue, there. Hunter is usually the one in charge of the radio room."
