James hadn't spoken to Lily much the past few days. Mainly she had been busy, looking through files with Ophelia; concocting potential new medicines with Frank; coding computers with Remus; or target practice with Marlene. She hadn't had a private lesson with James for a while and he hadn't sought her out to give her one. So she'd ignored him in general.

She did mean what she'd said to Remus. He was a mystery. That was all. Just something she couldn't figure out. No interest, no matter how pretty he was, or how nice he had smelt when he'd hugged her.

"This is your first overnight mission today, but you can handle it. It's important you experience all sorts of missions. You've been on recon, stakeouts, and two undercover missions so far, but today you'll be filling in as a Hufflepuff. I want you ready in the van, ready to tend any of our injured men if it gets ugly. But I don't want you to worry. Marlene is immortal. I've pulled enough bullets out of her to know that by now," James sent Marlene a quick smirk which she returned, "and Dorcas... is Dorcas. She won't be shot at all."

It was odd to hear James sound so affectionate when talking about the two girls, usually, he was either all business or shamelessly flirting with her; seeing real meaning in his tone only deepened the mystery.

"So be alert at all times. We don't have a Ravenclaw to spare, so you might need to double up, but do not get into any of the action. I can't have you stretching yourself too far. Got it?"

Lily nodded, imitating his business-like tone.
"Ten-four."

"Right then," he clapped his hands, "off you fuck. Puma, get the van."

Marlene nodded, "50. A, right?"

"The very same."

"C'mon guys! We've got some Death Eater ass to kick!"

"Cobra, do you copy?"

"Loud and clear."

"I need eyes in the main room, use the vents."

"Copy."

Lily had been in the van for hours now, itching for action. It felt like she almost wasn't needed, Marlene and Dorcas seemed to work as an extension of each other and somehow they made a potentially dangerous mission feel like a third wheel to date.

Lily watched on CCTV cameras as Dorcas hopped easily into the vent and began to crawl through them.

"You should be reaching the main room now. I'm guessing this is where they are."

"The Death Eaters?"

"No, the French Cabinet of Ministers— yes, the bloody Death Eaters!"

Marlene laughed through her earpiece, "aren't you two adorable?"

"Yes, quite. Now, Puma, can you cover the escape routes?"

"Easy."

Lily sighed with relief, finally formulating a plan, "perfect. We're going to draw them out."
