"We need to redecorate," Lily whispered to James as they lay together in what he had assured Lily was their bed. She'd been saying the same thing for months and they'd only just begun the process two weeks ago, their baby was nearly due by now and the uncomfortableness was beginning to ebb away in favor of excitement.

"I know, love, but we're nearly done and we don't want to start decluttering and then have the baby born, can we?"

"We also can't have a baby with these shitty blinds still in use."

James feigned a scandalized look, and Lily laughed.
"These shitty blinds have served me well!"

"They need to go."

"Fine," he sighed, kissing her forehead before climbing out of bed.

"Where are you going?" Lily asked him, not bothering to sit up as she'd learned by now that the effort that was required usually outweighed her wish to sit.

"It's past nine. I'm going to get you some breakfast."

Lily grinned, "I love you."

"Just as well. I'm irresistible."

"Irresponsible."

"Shut up, Evans."

She watched him leave to the kitchen with a grin on her face before settling back into bed...

James emerged twenty minutes later with a tray in his hands and this time Lily did sit up.

"So," he began, watching her eat the plate of warm pancakes and fruit he'd made for her, "I've been forced a day's leave to spend with you. I think it's supposed to be one of those things we need to do before little Bambi comes. Like in the movies when they go on 'one last trip' before the baby comes?"

"People do that, you know?" Lily laughed with a mouthful of pancake.

"They do?"

She was laughing now, "Sometimes I forget how abnormal you are. It's adorable."

He swatted her hand away as it came to rest on his cheek but he was grinning ear to ear.
"Regardless, we've got the day together so whatever you like– we can do."

"Well I can't exactly do much," Lily commented with a gesture to her rather large stomach.

"It's still your choice."

"What sort of holiday is this? You always complain about the movies and activities I pick!"

"Well I have a sneaking suspicion that Sirius locked the door so I'm open to all cultures."

"Chick flicks are not cultures, sweetie, they're a lifestyle."

This made James laugh, he climbed higher onto the bed, fully dressed and atop the covers but Lily settled into his side anyway, "Well then educate me."

"You're serious?"

"No, I'm James— sorry! Yes, I'm being serious. Educate me in the horrific art of chick flicks."

Lily clapped her hands vigorously and looked around for the TV remote. James squared his shoulders as if preparing for battle.

"Do you wanna check if we're still locked in?"

James laughed, walking over to the door and trying the handle once more. When it finally clicked open, Lily heard him exclaim from the couch.
"Good God!"

"What's the matter?" She asked, attempting to pull herself up haphazardly, and upon seeing her struggle James came running to her aid.

"I'll show you, c'mon, love."

James then guided Lily to the door which had rose petals reaching in a trail outside.
"Sirius clearly thinks he's funny."

"Just fucking hilarious, yeah," he agreed, holding out his arm for her to take, "Shall we humor him?"

"It would be rude not to."

They followed the trail of rose petals down the corridor and into one of the out-of-use meeting rooms which had been converted into a dining room. Sitting around the tables were Lily's family, their friends, and a very smug-looking Sirius Black.

"Padfoot was there really a need?"

Sirius placed a hand over his heart, "Of course there was! And now I've organized this wonderful family meal for you and I get repaid like this?! It's blasphemy!"

"You're not a god, darling," Remus muttered, motioning for his boyfriend to sit down, looking nearly mortified. Sirius sat, but looked none too pleased.

It turns out Sirius really had organized a family dinner, which passed with jokes and laughs like a real event. Alice and Frank sat side by side opposite Lily and James, they discussed their pregnancies while Erica Evans would occasionally chime in with her own experiences. Sirius and Remus were having an argument with Peter and Christopher about which Star Wars film was the best, and Marlene was bothering Peter by flinging bits of a napkin at him while Dorcas and Mary laughed.

Everything seemed to be going wonderfully to plan. Their food was delicious and everyone seemed to be having a fantastic time.
Nothing at all was amiss and it might have been a perfectly normal night if it weren't for the final part of the night...

It was Alice who encountered the problem first. A hitch in her breath was all it began at first.
"Oh!" She exclaimed, more surprised than hurt, and Frank immediately turned to dote on her.

It was nearly as soon as Alice had managed to reassure Frank she was fine that Lily followed suit. It was a nearly comical change.
Lily gave a sharp gasp as her hand automatically clutched her stomach.

"Are you okay?" James asked, panic rising in his voice. In truth it was only a sharp pain that didn't last all that long, Lily knew exactly where that twinge would eventually lead.

"I think... maybe it's happening?"
Alice heard this and nodded in agreement.

"Holy shit," James hissed at the same time Alice cried out, clearly in more pain than the last time.

"Have either of your waters broken?" Erica asked calmly.

At the same time Lily shook her head, Alice nodded and Frank laughed.
"It literally just happened there!"

"Oh shit!" Alice laughed through another burst of pain.

"I think Alice needs to go to the–AHH!"

Everyone turned to leave and look at Lily, who turned to look at James, who did his best not to laugh through stress he had never known anything like.
"Perfect timing Lils," was all he managed to say.

"I think," Peter said, "and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the girls have had their waters break at the same time!"

"Well done, Pete!" Sirius deadpanned and Peter managed to chuckle before he fainted.

Erica only sighed
"There's always one," she said before helping escort the girls to the Hufflepuff hospital wing.
