I ran my fingertips over the clothes in my wardrobe, looking for a suitable dress for tonight.
"Zara, do you think this is an appropriate dress for tonight?"
I half turned and studied the dark blue dress in my sister-in-law's hands. "Yes, it will look lovely on you."
When I saw her look at the garment with doubt, I took it from her and ran my fingers over the soft fabric.
"If you change the way you look at things, the things you see change. I see," I kept the dress in front of her body. ''-a beautiful dark blue dress around a slender body with a pair of gold earrings and a matching necklace.''
A smile appeared on her face. "What am I supposed to do without you?" She put her arms around me and walked out of the room.
I changed my pajamas into a white dress and tied a pair of matching heels around my feet.
I put my straight hair in a high ponytail and walked downstairs.
"Faid went to get bread at the bakery. Can you babysit Mira in the meantime?" Samira asked as the dining table was set.
I picked up Mira from her seat and put her on my lap. "Who's coming to visit again?" I asked Samira and played with Mira's fingers.
"My mother with my brother." She glanced at the clock. "They should be storming in at any moment. I'm going into the kitchen," Samira muttered before disappearing back into the kitchen to prepare dinner.
I continued playing with Mira a bit when I heard the bell. With Mira in my arms I opened the door and let Samira's mother and brother in.
"Oh sweetie! How nice to see you again!" exclaimed Samira's mother enthusiastically and threw her arms around me.
I patted her back uncomfortably and nodded at Marcio. "Hello Auntie. Welcome. Come on."
Both visitors took a seat on the couch and Samira's mother looked at me deeply. "I hope my Samira is taking care of you, Zara?"
Although Samira's mother is a nice woman and has always supported me, I have never see her as a mother figure.
I gave her a smile. "Don't worry. Samira does everything she can to keep the house in order."
I gave Mira to her grandmother as soon as I heard the bell go off. Samira's mother soon took Mira from me and started chatting with the baby.
"I'll open the door," I muttered softly and fled into the hallway.
I closed my eyes with relief when the chatter was heard in the distance and leaned against the wall.
Peace at last.
I was startled to hear the loud bell and straightened up.
After turning the key a few times, the door finally opened and I came face to face with a pair of brown-green eyes.
"Imran," I muttered startled and my eyes slid over his figure. He was more muscular. His eyes, which at that time looked at me with love, did not hold any emotion, however.
"Zara." He nodded slightly and took a step forward. I automatically took a step back.
Pain passed his eyes from my movement.
I fiddled with my fingers as I looked around. Are the walls getting closer or is it just me? "W-what are you doing here?"
He clicked his tongue. "If you would just move away with those beautiful hips of yours, then I could pass them perfectly without touching you. I was invited here and wouldn't want to miss Samira's dinner for anything."
