"Noori?" I muttered in surprise. I pushed the door open a little further and stepped outside. "Hey honey."
She looked at me for a moment with wide eyes, her mouth slightly open and her body tense.
She seemed frozen.
I waved awkwardly in front of her eyes. "Um, Noor-"
Suddenly, she threw her arms around me and pulled me into a strong embrace. "Holy shit," she yelled excitedly. "Look at this house!"
I rubbed her back with a small smile. "Well, and I thought the enthusiasm was for me," I muttered playfully.
Noor was a lover of large houses.
She pulled back and nodded vigorously. "Of course, I missed you! It's so boring without you." Her eyes rolled over Imran's house where I was temporarily staying. "-but this house is f*king big, Zara."
I pushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I missed you too."
If I saw her constantly glancing over my shoulder, I would step aside. "Will you come in?"
Noor shook her thoughts away and smiled broadly. "Although the invitation sounds appealing, I'm here for something different."
I frowned. "Oh?"
"I wanted to go shopping with you." Her eyes looked at me hopefully.
"Shopping?" I repeated confused. "For whom?"
A wide smile stretched her lips apart. "For the baby." Her eyes rolled over my shoulder where Ela was puzzling. "And Ela, of course!"
Ela looked up from her puzzle and her eyes lit up at the sight of Noor. "Noori!" she shouted cheerfully and ran towards us.
Noor took her in her arms and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Hey, Ela. Will you come shopping with me and mommy?"
Ela nodded shyly.

"Oh my gosh! Zara, look!"
A pair of pink shoes, decorated with glitter - a lot of glitter - were pushed into my hand.
I took the shoes from her and nodded doubtfully. "Cute."
She seemed to notice the doubt, for she cocked her head and muttered, "But?"
I glanced briefly at the half-filled cart Ela was in with baby gear. "We already have a lot of stuff in the cart."
She frowned confused. "So?"
I bit my lip. "I'm having a boy, Noori."
Her frown deepened. "So?"
I rolled my eyes. "So what do you mean? It's pink, Noor."
"For Ela then?" she asked skeptically.
Ela reached for the pink shoes and nodded happily. "Me, me, me," she muttered happily.
I shook my head and put the shoes away. "These are way too small for you, baby."
Ela pouted her lip and crossed her arms.
"Hey, you can save them for the next baby." Noor picked up the pink shoes again and wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
I looked at Noor in disbelief. "I'm in the middle of a lawsuit, Noor. Besides, I don't have a partner. There won't be another one."
I picked up another pair of purple shoes in Ela's size. Ela took it with her little hands. "Nice, mommy," she muttered with admiration and I laughed.
