"Ugh! I'll end up in a mental asylum at this rate." Rhea pulled her hairs in frustration. Lately, the two pieces of minds she had been receiving from her aunt and her mother & sister was causing her to overthink which she was not used to.
She probably needed a break and thought a week stay at Dimpy's place would be the best option. So, she picked up her phone and dialed her number.
"Hey, what's up?" Dimpy picked up the call.
"Can I come over to your place for a week?" Rhea asked.
"I'm sorry, but we are not at home. We came to our native place for the last rites of my cousin." Dimpy said.
"The one who had her birthday a week ago? How did this happen to her?" Rhea was surprised at the girl's sudden demise.
"A guy who claimed to love her couldn't bear her rejection and murdered her." Dimpy informed.
"That's ridiculous. Who does it? It's not love but obsession." Rhea exclaimed.
"Look who's speaking." Dimpy's tongue slipped before she could control herself. She disconnected the call immediately fearing a typical Rhea Mehra outburst.
But, Rhea had heard the comment. It was true, she was indeed behaving like a maniac. Murder? Would she have murdered someone?
No! She didn't really want to pose serious harm to someone. She never dreamed of killing Prachi. She only wanted Ranbir.
Now she realized even if she acquired Ranbir by crook, he would never love her. His heart belonged to Prachi.
Then what was the need for the hatred and evil plots for Prachi? Why should she waste her time and energy to increase the number of negative deeds in her life. Wouldn't it be better if she and Prachi shared a beautiful sisterly bond?
Rhea had a sudden moment of enlightenment. She resolved to change herself back to the old innocent Rhea she was and apologize to Prachi. As soon as she thought of it, her pricking conscience was at rest.
She went out of her room with determination and knocked at the door of Prachi's room. There was no response. She noticed the door was not locked and pushed it open, but Prachi was not in her room.
Rhea thought of checking Shahana's room but in vain. She asked Ranbir and Aryan who too had no idea about the location of the girls. It was a surprise as they were usually home by that time.
Out of the blue, she heard a loud thud. She rushed downstairs to find Pragya almost fainting and Abhi holding her in his arms. They had upset a flower vase which had fallen down and attracted all the family members.
"What happened to Pragya ji?" Pallavi enquired.
"I don't know. She received a call from Shahana and broke down." Abhi was tensed at her condition.
"Bring some water." Dida ordered.
Rhea brought a glass of water and made Pragya drink it.
"What happened fuggi? What did Shahana say?" Abhi asked gently.
"Pra.....Prachi.....accident......hospital......" she managed to speak out a few words.
These were enough to make Ranbir dash to his car without waiting for anyone and Aryan followed him after knowing which hospital it was.
-----
It had been 24hrs and Prachi was still in the operation theatre. Ranbir had neither eaten nor drank anything. He was silently standing glued to the door of the OT, looking the lifeless figure of his girlfriend inside. Tear marks were clearly visible on his face.
Aryan was hugging a hysterical Shahana and trying to comfort her despite being tensed himself. Pragya was busy praying for Prachi's recovery whereas Abhi was busy contacting the police to search the culprit who had caused the accident.
Everyone seemed to have something or the other to do except Rhea. She was sitting cluelessly. Somehow it didn't feel right to her.
"Did you nab him?" Abhi's question made everyone turn towards him.
The inspector was standing with a serious expression on his face.
"Yes. We are here to arrest her." he replied. "Arrest Rhea Mehra." he instructed the constable.
"Rhea? What has she done?" Abhi was perplexed.
"She had hired a goon to cause Ms. Prachi Mehra's accident."
"You must be mistaken. Why would Rhea want to harm her sister?" Pragya interjected.
"We have a witness who gave us proofs." the inspector said.
"Who is it? He is lying!" Abhi exclaimed angrily.
"It's time to break your illusions. Your little princess is a devil in disguise." Aarav appeared in the scene.
"How dare you say that!" Abhi clutched his collar.
"Hear this once and then I'll listen what you have to say in the defense of Rhea." Aarav said playing some recordings in his phone.
They were the conversations he had with Rhea about planning to harm Prachi. Surprisingly, the last recording was of him realizing his mistake but Rhea being adamant to kill Prachi. Rhea was shocked as it had never happened.
"Is it genuine, Rhea?" Abhi questioned.
"I can explain....."
"Answer my question first." Abhi spoke in a constrained voice.
"Yes" she admitted. "But I never wanted to kill........" she tried to add but was cut off by Abhi.
"Inspector, arrest her."
"Dad?" Rhea was unable to believe her ears.
"Don't call me dad. I had never raised a monster who wanted to kill someone even after knowing she is your own twin." he said with blood shot eyes.
"Believe me dad, I didn't do it this time." she sobbed.
When she got no response, she turned to Ranbir for help.
"I never wanted to kill Prachi. Please believe me." she begged.
"Why did you do this Rhea? I considered you as my good friend since childhood." Ranbir lamented.
"Bhooji, you were with me in all of these, please say the truth to them."
"What are you saying Rhea? When was I with you?" Alia acted to be surprised.
"Bhooji?" Rhea was shocked at Alia's reply.
"I don't even know Aarav. Moreover what would I have gained by harming Prachi?" Alia said.
Aarav too denied knowing Alia. Rhea fell silent. The woman she had loved and believed all her life had betrayed her. Most of the crimes she had committed was on Alia's advice and now she had abandoned her in this mess.
The police arrested Rhea and dragged away her with them.
