TW: knife, death, blood
Awsten had been working for Bob, at the club for almost four years now.
Laura was eighteen now herself, fully aware of the life that Awsten had signed up for in order to protect her.
In fact, she knew all along what had been going on she just never told Awsten.
The two of them had an unspoken rule amongst the two of themselves, for years their only goal was to make sure that the other was doing well and in turn they ended up keeping things from each other.
By the time that Laura had turned sixteen, and they both realized they knew more than they let on to the other person they decided to stop hiding things from each other. The knew that it would only complicate things if they continued to try to make it seem like all was right, like they hadn't been through hell and back.
She was living about two hours away from Awsten, she had gotten into every single college she applied to and had even been offered scholarships by schools she didn't apply to.
To say he was proud of her would be an absolute understatement, he was nervous that she was living so far away. For as long as he could remember it was just the both of them, and being on his own felt strange.
To keep himself distracted he dove into work at the club, spending his time there from open to close. He would even go in early, and stay far past closing because he could.
He wasn't completely alone though, he wouldn't necessarily call them friends but he did have people that worked by his side every single day he knew that he could trust.
These were men that he had brought in himself, with the approval of Bob.
Awsten's approach wasn't nearly as manipulative as Bob's was a few years back, he knew that he had good intentions but there was an underlying issue with offering a seventeen year old what he did.
Lucas was the clubs body guard, he was a quiet guy even once you got to know him. He had gotten in trouble for getting into a few too many fist fights, and the last person he had fought wanted to press charges meaning that he would of ended up in jail.
He kept an eye out on everyone that came in and out of the club, if anything ever looked even remotely off he would take care of it himself.
Very rarely did he have to go with Awsten for anything, and for that he was thankful.
Otto was Awsten's right hand man, and considerably the most terrifying person wrapped up with silver gift wrap that he had ever met.
Awsten didn't like killing people, he had done it of course. It came along with the territory of the job but he didn't do it unless he absolutely had to, Otto on the other hand got almost a little too much enjoyment out of a simple kill.
He was pretty sure that Otto was a sociopath, and for that always managed to stay on his good side.
Otto grew up like Awsten did, an abusive father who didn't give two shits about his childern.
