Awsten knew that Angel was going to be nervous tonight.

What he wasn't expected was for her to be clinging to him, almost relying on him to remind her to breathe before they even made it up the walkway.

His arm was wrapped tightly around her waist, and he was pretty sure that he was the only thing keeping her on her feet in that moment in time.

"Have you ever walked in heels before?" he asked her teasingly as she continually stumbled over her own two feet.

Angel let out a weak laugh, shrugged her shoulders as she tightened her grip on Awsten in return. "I didn't think my vans or converse were really acceptable for a night like tonight, I could of bedazzled them to match my mask though that would of been cool."

"Please tell me that's rhetorical and that you don't actually own a bedazzler." he taunted, as they slowly made their way up the long winding path to the building in front of them.

"Honestly, I'm a little offended that you don't think I actually own one. Do you want me to make you a jacket? Or add rhinestones to one of your flower shirts? Vans? Bowtie? Possibilities are endless with imagination." she teased, trying to keep the tone light while her voice shook.

Awsten shook his head, holding back the urge to roll his eyes. "You're making it really fucking hard to pretend to be your boyfriend right now."

"Are you trying to tell me that you don't think I'm a delight? I mean really, who doesn't love rhinestones?" she teased.

Awsten didn't get the chance to respond before they made it up to the large double doors to the house, there we two men standing outside dressed in black suits similar to Awsten's with simple black masks on their faces concealing their identity.

"Names." one of them said coldly, as Angel could feel his eyes trailing up and down her body settling on their thigh that was exposed by the slit in her dress.

"First of all, get your eyes off of my girlfriends fucking thigh. Secondly, Kyle Fletchers and Samantha Wilson." Awsten told him, his tone laced with venom.

She wasn't expecting the guards to start laughing at the sound of this, making her blood run cold. "Were we finally lucky enough to find out what your name was?"

"Also finding it hard to believe that you managed to pull such a pretty young thing." he taunted, his attention directly solely on Angel.

Awsten didn't react, but the silence said enough in that moment.
"Our names are both on the list. We were both requested to be here tonight."

The other guard nodded his head, opening the door for the pair. "That you were, once you're inside it's-"

"The dinner in the grand hall or whatever bullshit he calls it, and then the event following is down the set of stairs and there's a code to get down there I know." Awsten cut him off angrily, entering the house guiding Angel with him as gently as he possibly could.

"Something out of a fucking horror movie." Angel muttered under her breath, as Awsten turned to look at her with his eyebrows furrowed.

"The house." she clarified, pointing at the high ceilings and gaudy art that lined the walls down the hallway. "It looks like the kind of house that white old men play silly little games in, but the games aren't silly because they result in death or worse."
