... Isaac ...
The heart monitors beep consistently with Lizzy's heartbeat. AB- blood is being pumped into her to make up for the loss that she got from the stake. I guess it helped to drink some of Tracy's blood though.
I sigh and squeeze her limp hand, getting no response back. Her pale face is almost as white as the sheets covering her, making her hair stand out like a pile of old coins. Her lips are slightly parted to reveal sharp incisors with the tips coated in dark red blood.
Blaise is curled up at her neck, laying still, but I know he's not asleep. His tail is curled around Lizzy's upper arm, like a furry arm band.
I can't believe Tracy would do this. He speaks in my mind and I almost jump to my feet. I try to talk back, but no matter how hard I concentrate, I can't do it. Only I can do it. Just speak out loud.
"She's speaking to Ms. Keefe right now with Brad." I reply.
My poor Lizzy. She never deserved anything like this. Blaise sighs and lifts his head to look at me, his blue eyes bright and hard.
"I can't just sit here and wait for her to wake up. I have to do something." I run my free hand over my face.
There is nothing we can do. I've been trying to take away the pain, but it's not working. It's almost as if she's burning alive. That's what it feels like. I can't even imagine the scale of pain she's feeling right now.
Before I can answer him, the door opens and Mason walks in. As soon as he reaches the bed, Blaise stands up, his fur on end. Mason immediately backs away with his hands in the air. "Hey, I'm not going to hurt her."
"Blaise, dude, calm down. If he lays one finger on her, you can do whatever you want to him." I pat the oversized kitten on the back and smooth down his fur.
Suddenly, Lizzy shifts. Her beautiful face contorts in pain and she clenches the sheets with her free hand. She squeezes my hand so tightly, I think she may break a few bones, but I don't let go. Her breath starts coming in jagged gasps and I jump to my feet. I grab an oxygen mask from above the bed and put it over her nose. I turn it on and look at Mason, panic spreading across his face.
"I'll be right back." I run out of the room and down the hall towards Ms. Keefe's office. I don't knock before entering at it looks like she's yelling at Tracy and Brad.
"I don't think she's waking up, but she's in a lot of pain." I inform her and she jogs this way. "I put an oxygen mask on her, but I don't know if it's helping." We go down the hall and into the hospital room, looking place. She hasn't changed since I left, but Blaise has started purring and stroking Lizzy's face with his tail, which seems to calm her down a bit.
Ms. Keefe walks over to the blood bag and pours in a clear substance. "It's morphine. It should help with the pain." She catches my confused look.
Without warning, Lizzy sits up, her eyes an unnatural silver color. We all step away from her, but she doesn't seem dangerous. Then she gasps.
"The people of the night,
Beware,
Either they fall in the light,
Or be ensnared,
It is the calm before the fight."
Her eyes roll to the back of her head and she falls back. None of us move except for looking at each other. "Is it a prophecy?" Mason asks.
I think so. I'm searching her mind for any knowledge about this. Blaise speaks in everyone's mind causing them to jump.
"Ok, we need to write this down." Ms. Keefe looks around for a pencil and paper, but then leaves.
"Do you really think it's an omen?" Mason turns to me.
"Yes, why else do you think she'd say something like that?"
