"You were almost late." Ms. Keefe doesn't even look up as I walk into her office. She's leaned over some paperwork, and a new kid sits in the chair in front of her. She's at least three years younger than me with large doe eyes, and soft wavy chocolate hair. Her eyes are an kind, soft brown. I search her mind, but she's put up barriers.

"Yeah, so is that kid. She's half a year late." I snap, my emotions getting the better of me. My stomach practically burns with frustration.

"Elizabeth." She sighs and I glare at her. "Be nice."

"Sorry, I'm extremely grumpy today." I growl and start pacing the front of the room.

"Well, Elizabeth, this is Emilee Carter. She's in ninth grade." She still doesn't look up.

"Why is she wearing black? I've only seen one other student wearing black." Emilee asks in a soft voice.

"She's a Hunter. You know how you're training to be one? She's already one." Great way to explain it Ms. Keefe. I mean, even I'm confused.

"What she's trying to say," I give a pointed look at Ms. Keefe. "Is that I'm in the program where I go and hunt rogue Vampires already. The small percentage who does it, is the top in their class." I try to elaborate.

"So you're saying if I am one of the top kids in my classes, I get to go out with you guys to hunt Vampires and wear black?" Excitement bubbles in her voice.

"Yeah, but it's only rogue Vampires we're killing." This girl is starting to creep me out. "And you get to carry around a stake at all times." I pat my side where a stake rests in its sheath.

"Why only rogue Vampires?"

"Typical Vampires aren't bad." I wince, then turn to Ms. Keefe who's started watching the whole ordeal. "Can you help explain that?"

"What she's trying to say," she smiles at me. "Is that your typical Vampire isn't bad. They only drink blood if they have to, and they don't kill their prey."

"They have to drink every day or else they start starving and get really bad stomach cramps. Just saying." I add and the girl looks curiously at me.

"You're a Vampire." How did she know?

"Yes, she's a Vampire." Ms. Keefe sighs. "How did you know?"

"I mean, she's really pale, prettier than any natural human I've ever seen, her eyes are changing colors, and her canines are sharper than normal humans even though they aren't out." She shrugs.

"This girl is good." I point at her. "Which is a shame how we're all going to die on December twenty eighth."

"Wha-"

"Elizabeth! Stop!" Ms. Keefe jumps to her feet and glares daggers at me. "Prophecies are not true!"

"Are you really sure? Everything that has happened, is leading to that." I hiss. "Everyone is going to die, and I'll be helpless to stop it."

"No you won't, because it's not going to happen!"

"And really? A guard outside my door so I don't run away?" I throw my hands in the air.

"I don't want you to run away and get hurt again."

"Get hurt?! You're worried about me getting hurt, yet, if I don't leave, everyone is going to be hurt and killed." Doesn't she see that? "You should be evacuating the school instead of sitting here arguing."

"No, we should be carrying on with our everyday lives because prophecies aren't true!"

"Fine, do what you want, but everyone is going to die, and it's going to be my fault." I start pacing again, faster than any human could ever walk.
