"Thank you for joining us, Miss. Embers." Mr. Toliver scowls as I stride into the room. "Do you have an excuse?"

"I was with Ms. Keefe. You can call her to verify." I sit down at my desk. Emilee sits in the chair next to mine and she rolls her eyes. She tears a piece of paper out of her journal and starts writing on it.

Where were u? She passes it under the desk.

At Ms. Keefe's office. Practicing healing power when Ex came and destroyed it. Then new kid beat up Isaac. I pass back.

Someone beat Isaac up? And what happened between Ex?

Yeah, and my Ex is someone you don't know. He's a lying, piece of crap. I'm about to send it back when Mr. Toliver snatches the note from my hand. I cringe as he reads it. Great. Just perfect.

"Passing notes in class, Elizabeth? It's not very becoming. Not at all." He clucks his tongue. "'Yeah, and my Ex is someone you don't know. He's a lying, piece of crap'." He reads it out loud.

A few snickers travel around, and some girl sighs, "Daniel Anders is so cute!"

"And your comma should be erased, Miss. Elizabeth. There shouldn't be a comma between 'lying' and 'piece'." He sighs and crumples the paper in his hand. "Now as I was saying, Vampire shifters are quite rare. It's a mutation of the venom in their bloodstream. The venom level is so high, that it needs another form to share it with, so the Vampire shifts to another form to help release some of that venom."

Could this class get any more boring? I already know all this, so why do I have to go to a class for it? Being Vampire sort of answers all your questions.

"Miss. Embers, may you please demonstrate a full shift?" Mr. Toliver smirks from beside my desk. I blink up at him, hate burning in my gaze as my eyes go ice cold.

"You can shift?" I hear Emilee gasp.

"Do I have to? It hurts when I do." I moan.

"Yes, the more you shift, the less it'll hurt. You should take advantage of being able to shift; it's a wonderful power to have." I groan and will myself to change form. Stinging fur erupts over my body and my lower back throbs as a tail grows. I feel myself shrinking and my bones pop and mend with different bones. The pain is minimal compared to last time.

I sit down, wrapping my tail delicately around my white paws. I flick my ears back and forth lazily. The different scents of the people around me is almost overwhelming. I can feel the power radiating from them, and added with their emotions, I can pretty much read them like a book. Different powers suggest how they think about themselves. If they think highly, more power.

"See how it's a complete change? Not one of her Vampire traits is present. Only her blue eyes suggest that she's not a full fox. Her characteristics are slightly different like that gray paw. Most foxes are only red and white, but she has a tint of gray. Not all mutations are perfect, but hers is one of the most complete I've ever seen." Was that a compliment? I think it was! "Thank you, you may shift back now, Elizabeth."

I turn back human and pretend like the whole incident never happened, which is really hard considering everyone's staring at me. Ugh, I hate it when people stare at me. I feel my face go red I look down at my desk.

"The first experience of a shift, is excruciatingly painful. Most realize they're shifters in a fight, so when they shift and pass out, the enemy overcomes them..." Mr. Toliver drawls on in his very boring voice. It's a daily challenge not to fall asleep in his class.

The bell rings and I sprint from the class and to Ms. Lemming's choir class. "Elizabeth, wait!" I groan and turn around to find Emilee running towards me, a notebook under her arm.
