... Isaac ...
"Did she just fall asleep?" Mrs. Embers asks, incredulous and it takes all my willpower not to roll my eyes.
"Yes. She's healing a heart, a lung, tissue, skin and a lot of other things I don't know of. She's also replenishing her blood supply. She is going to be tired." I slowly explain, as if I'm talking to a child.
"Vampires." She sighs and I scowl. Who cares if she's a Vampire or not?
"Mrs. Embers, I say this as politely as possible," Mason takes a deep breath. "But I think your being here is making it worse for her. She was turned into a Vampire against her will, she is being ridiculed by classmates, her long term boyfriend just broke up with her, she was staked by one of her best friends, and now you show up."
"Excuse me, Sir, but we are her parents. Why wouldn't she want to see us?" Mr. Embers scowls.
"You ignore her for four years, and then you mysteriously show up. If my parents did that to me, I wouldn't be very excited to see them either." I put in.
Ms. Keefe suddenly walks in and sits in one of the empty chairs, looking exhausted. "They had no reason to stake her. They just wanted to get rid of her." She sighs and pinches the bridge of her nose.
"She woke up again, but she fell asleep just a moment later." I inform her and she nods.
"What's she feeling, Blaise?" Ms. Keefe looks at the black cat huddled at Lizzy's shoulder.
Exhausted, a little upset, grumpy, and confused. Mrs. Embers and Mr. Embers jump about a foot in the air.
"Did that cat just speak? In our minds?" Mr. Embers points at Blaise, who puts his ears flat on his head.
Everyone ignores them. "That's what I expected. Thank you, Blaise." She nods and writes something down on her hand.
"What did she say when she woke up? Was she confused or upset?"
She was a little confused and upset. She wanted to know why her parents came if they've been neglecting her for the past four years. Mrs. Embers looks like she's about to argue.
"Maybe it is best that you two leave. We need her to heal without stress." Ms. Keefe looks gently at the two parents.
"But she's our daughter!" Mr. Embers blurts out. "She's our responsibility."
"I'm sorry sir, but when she came to the school, she became my responsibility."
She's my responsibility as well. I look after her and make sure she's happy. Blaise adds, which is true. She's not happy with you around, so I need you to leave as well.
"She's my responsibility to. I'm her best friend." I raise my hand.
"She's also my responsibility, because..." Mason gulps. "My best friend totally tore her apart and I have to help."
