"Alright class! Quiet down!" Mr. Toliver stands at the head of the classroom with a bunch of papers resting in the crook of his arm. The rest of the students silence and focus what little attention they have, on Mr. Toliver.
"Since every single one of my classes failed yesterday's test, I created another one. This one should be simpler for simpler minded students." He glares daggers at us before stiffly passing out the packets.
As he passes me, he slaps the booklet down on my desk harder than necessary. God, what is that guy's problem? Maybe he needs to go to Mr. Brown for the punching bag. It would do him wonders.
I barely even glance at my test before Mr. Toliver's voice yells out again. "Miss. Embers, you are needed in the office immediately." What? Does Ms. Keefe finally see how I may actually be right?
I practically leap out of my desk and fly out the door, ignoring the "Oh, she in trouble!" 's and "Lucky her." 's.
"You wanted to see me." I barge into Ms. Keefe's office without so much as a hello or knock.
"Hello, Elizabeth." Ms. Keefe sighs, but doesn't look up from filling out papers. "I want to speak with you and I want you to meet your new roommate." Roommate? I glance over to the chair in front of Ms. Keefe's desk. Emilee smiles shyly back at me.
"Alright, Ms. Keefe, I don't have room for a roommate." I heave a sigh, mimicking Ms. Keefe's. "I have a very large cat, a desk, a book shelf, and numerous book stacks on the floor. Not to mention my room is half the size of all the other students!"
"Elizabeth, every other student in this school has a roommate. You should be no exception."
"I'm a Vampire! Aren't you at all afraid that I'll totally suck her blood in the middle of the night? Or spit out more prophecies that you should be conscientious of?" I argue
"Enough about those cursed prophecies! They aren't real and they never will be! Just. Shut. Your. Trap. About. It!" Ms. Keefe stands up and almost yells. I cringe, not expecting her outburst. The room goes dead silent before Ms. Keefe coughs. "I want you to show Emilee to your room and help her feel welcome. I expect you to point out where her classes are also. Goodnight you two. I will see you in first period tomorrow, Elizabeth." She sits back down and excuses us.
Anger fills me up and I sharply turn out of Ms. Keefe's office, slamming the door behind me. I storm out of the building and into the eerily empty court yard. I plop down on the nearest bench and close my eyes.
As if I'm sucked into a vision, the world goes black. Not entirely black, but it's so dark a human wouldn't be able to see. The figure of the courtyard is spread out in front of me as if I'm just sitting there, but black. The darkness constantly shifts and turns as if made of fog. What on earth is this?
"Umm, Elizabeth? That is your name right?" I blink and the darkness goes away. Turning, I see Emilee awkwardly standing next to me, unsure of what to do.
"Yes? Do you need help moving all of your stuff into my room?" I ask, putting specific emphasis on my.
"Actually, I do. Thank you." Emilee smiles, ignoring my hostility. I sigh again and rise from the bench. I follow the fourteen year old to the girls' dorms, where all of her stuff lays at the entrance. She picks up a suitcase and a backpack, while I pick up three boxes and a duffle bag.
"You may have to put some of this under your bed. My room is smaller than everyone else's." I mumble and trudge up the steps to room number A316. I open the door and carefully set the bag and boxes down. A bed has been mysteriously moved to the wall across from mine.
