I wake up at around twelve because loud music blares from the room next to mine. What is wrong with people? Don't they know that other people are trying to sleep? I groan and flop out of bed, quickly heading towards the door so I can tell my neighbors to shut up.
I unlock the door and almost run into a large person. "What are you doing out of your room? Be specific."
"Telling the people next door to shut up because they're interrupting my sleep." I snap and try to walk around Mr. Brown, but he blocks my way.
"Fine, but come back here immediately." I growl and he moves out of the way. I quickly slip past him and open Savanna's door, which is unlocked. People are packed everywhere, so it's easy to sneak in.
People carry red cups that smell alcoholic, and make out in corners. The best example of a high school party. The bass reverberates through the air and tickles my feet, even though I'm still wearing my boots.
I find my way to the central music station, a large radio with the volume turned all the way up. I push the off button and the room goes deathly silent. Shouts of protest come from the crowd and everyone turns to me.
"Will you people shut up?!" I yell angrily. "You know some people are trying to sleep!"
"Elizabeth? What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be sleeping in your coffin or something?" Savanna pushes through the crowd in a skimpy dress and a ton of makeup plastered on her face. I scowl at her.
"For one, I am here to try to get some sleep, and for two, I do not sleep in a coffin." I retort.
"Liar." Someone coughs and I sigh.
"Will you just turn down the music? I've had a stressful couple of weeks, and I just want to sleep."
"Stressful weeks on vacation." Savanna grins wickedly.
"Just you wait." I snarl at her. "You just wait and see." I storm out of the room and slam the door behind me. The music erupts after me and I sigh. They just have no idea.
"Guess that didn't work did it?" Mr. Brown chuckles and I give a low growl. What is it with people and wanting to annoy me today?
"No, it didn't. Now please tell me why I'm on probation." I cross my arms over my chest to keep from punching the wall in my anger, my eyes slightly getting brighter.
"I'm here to make sure you don't run away. Ms. Keefe told me to keep an eye on you." He smiles cheekily. Yeah, that definitely seems like what she'd do. "If you're going to argue, be specific."
"For one, it's my own decision to run away if I want to. Two, why do I have to be so specific?!" I whine.
"Why would you want to run away? You're aren't being specific enough." God, what is it with this dude and being specific? Frustration gnaws at my stomach.
"That is none of your business." I sniff and try to get into my room, but he steps in front of me.
"I already know, but I'm trying to make you more... Approachable." He tries to find the right word.
"Approachable by therapists?" I scoff and he glares at me.
"No, by people in general. Anyway, with all that black on you, most people would keep their distance anyway." I can feel my eyes go icy. Who cares what I wear? That's my own personal business.
"What do I care? All Hunters wear this."
"Well most Hunters don't wear that expression." He points out.
"Be specific." I cross my arms over my chest and smile evilly. Time for a little payback.
"You always look like you're ready to tear someone's head off their shoulders." What? "You seem like the type to do it to, if you don't like the person."
"I do not!" I argue. Do I really look like I'm about to rip someone's head off?
"Most of the time you do. Like right now." Great. My revenge has turned into his.
"Look, I'm tired. Can we just continue this discussion tomorrow?" I groan and try to get past him again.
"No, you haven't told me why you'd run away." He smiles and I feel like punching him in the face, even if he is a teacher. But right now he's not acting like one.
"That's my own business." I go to the wall opposite of my door and sit down. "Anyway, you know I could just throw you down the hall probably." He shrugs as if he doesn't care.
"I can wait here all night."
"I could just call in Blaise and he'd get you'd out of here pretty fast."
"But you won't." And that's the catch. I can threaten, but I really can't prove that threat right. "Now, I don't see what problem you have with sharing why you'd run away."
"Fine." I really just want to go to bed. "When I was recovering from being staked, I said a prophecy. When I found out what I said, that night I dreamed of it. Everyone I cared about was killed by Aiden, a Vampire that took some of my blood in Virginia. If I'm not here, the prophecy can't come true. I mean, everyone dies. You die. Ms. Keefe dies. Everyone dies."
"Who's Aiden?"
"A Vampire that's even more powerful than me. But that's only because he drank some of my blood."
"Alright, you can go. But I'm still watching you. I don't believe in prophecies." He steps away from the door and I quickly run in and slam the door on Mr. Brown's face.
I lay down in bed, and fall asleep to the music once again blaring from Savanna's room.
"You look really tired." Isaac walks up to me the following day as I make my way to Ms. Keefe's office.
"Thanks." I grumble and yawn. My eyelids feel like they're a thousand pounds, and I don't think I'll be able to keep them open for much longer.
"Are you all right?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I blink for about ten seconds. I'm about to fall asleep on my feet when he answers.
"You seem as if you're falling asleep." He grabs my shoulders.
"Well, Savanna had a party last night with really loud music. I told her to shut up, but she didn't turn it off." I shrug.
"Hm. I'll have a talk with her in first period." I'm about to argue, but he walks away to Mr. Toliver's first period. I groan and almost stomp my foot. I'm feeling that grumpy today.
