I finally drift to sleep to the rhythmic sound of Blaise's purring. He's such a life saver. I don't know what I'd do without him.
I wake up to the sound of a click. Not that of a Vampires teeth, but a door being unlocked. I look at my clock and it says 1:36 AM. Blaise is staring intently at the door, his fur rising on his back. I sniff the air, but there isn't a trace of a person. I look for thoughts or feelings, but it's carefully shielded. To careful.
Do you know who it is? Do they smell familiar? I ask Blaise.
No, it's almost as if the door is unlocking itself. A horrifying thought suddenly enters my mind.
When out on a mission, Hunters where a perfume that shields our smell from Vampires. Oh. My. God. A Hunter is trying to pick their way into my room. Possibly two or more. If it goes bad, I want you to go get Ms. Keefe and Isaac.
He doesn't get to respond because the door swings open. Two dark forms enter my room as quiet as trained Hunters should be. They inch along the wall and I try to appear asleep.
Three... Two... Blaise jumps at one and I jump at the other. It's a girl and a boy from the type of shrieks they give. The girl gives a high pitched squeal when Blaise jumps at her face. He looks twice his size and his teeth glint in the dark of my room. He scratches the girls face and I don't think I've ever been prouder. That's my baby!
I click in my fangs and my talons immediately grow in as well. I push the boy to the floor easily and he grunts in pain as he falls on a stack of books. I suddenly hear a wail from Blaise. I see him fly across the room and into my desk. The smell of the girl and Blaise's blood fill the air. Get out of here Blaise!
I then turn to the girl and leap at her, she sidesteps my lunge and pulls a stake. Fear rushes through me and I swear, I think my heart is going to jump right out my chest. I kick her stomach and she doubles over in pain. I push her against the wall and hit her over and over into it. She cries out each time. "That's for Blaise." I snarl.
I then lean down and bite her soft neck. She yells out in pain as my sharp fangs pierce the skin. I then start drinking her blood, the fresh warm O- blood filling my mouth. This totally beats bottled blood. It just has that fresh taste, like fresh peaches rather than store-bought peaches.
I let her go when I hear the boy get up. I snarl at him, my fangs crimson with blood. He's about to run when I get over there and kick his stake out of his hand. He tries to grab me, but flip backwards and avoid his grasp. Wow, I guess I can do back flips.
I grab one of my old blood bottles and smash it into the boys head. The strong glass shatters and he falls to the ground. I grin in triumph and I suddenly hear shifting behind me. Before I can turn around, I feel the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. Fire laces up and down my body and I gasp, but I can't get any air in my lungs. I turn around to see the girl standing behind me, pale, but satisfied.
I hear a yowl and suddenly, Blaise is attacking the girl with renewed energy. She screams and falls to the floor, trying to get him off of her. I know he won't be able to knock her unconscious, so I kick her in the head. Her eyes roll to the back of her head and she's out.
Go... Ms. Keefe. I manage to say to Blaise. He quickly jumps out my window in search of our principle. I fall to the floor, my vision starting to blacken. No, I have to get up.
I stumble to my feet and lean against the wall. I look down to see a stake protruding from my rib cage, blood surrounding it. Up one more rib, and I'd be a goner. I probably am anyway. It punctured my lung and the lower part of my heart.
I manage to get out into the hallway somehow, tears streaming silently down my face. My arms have gone numb and my chest feels like it's on fire. I'd rather die than have to feel this pain ever again.
Imagine accidently stabbing your hand while cutting vegetables, but a hundred times worse. That's what my chest feels like. I almost fall down the stairs, but I manage to catch myself on the railing. "Help!" I wheeze out.
I open the main doors to the outside, my breath coming in shallow gasps, my one working lung filling in and out uselessly. I know my other lung has collapsed.
I fall to the ground, the exhaustion and pain too much to bear. The last thing I see is Isaac and Ms. Keefe running towards me with Blaise, their emotions exploding in my brain.
